2 ND YEAR FRENCH 1 credit2 ND YEAR GERMAN2 ND YEAR SPANISH Prerequisite: Novice Mid Proficiency level and/or C or better in 1 st year language;9 th graders require middle school teacher recommendation CVHS Credit: fine art OUS Credit: world language (LBCC College Now credit may be available)In this class students will review all vocabulary and grammar from 1st year and will expand oral and written skills to include the futureand past tense. New vocabulary and structures will be introduced to increase understanding and fluency. Students will learn to askquestions, read for informational purposes, write using simple sentences, and communicate basic needs using memorized and familiarmaterial. A high emphasis is placed on speaking and participation.3 RD YEAR FRENCH 1 credit Prerequisite: Novice <strong>High</strong> Proficiency Level AND 2 nd year French passed with a C or better,or instructor consent CVHS Credit fine art OUS Credit: world languageThis level of French continues study of reading, writing, speaking and listening begun in 1 st year and 2 nd year French, and is conductedprimarily in French. A high emphasis is placed on speaking and participation. Students will master past tenses (passé composé andimparfait), understand and use future and conditional tenses, subjunctive mood, and practice all compound tenses. Use of the Allez,viens! level 3 textbook and workbook will enhance vocabulary as well as teach new and reinforce previously learned grammarstructures and pronoun usages. Students will be able to accurately write at paragraph level, read and understand poems and shortstories, and verbally communicate clearly and effectively enough for a native speaker to have little to no difficulty understanding them.Students will learn about aspects of French and Francophone culture including family practices, gestures, pronunciation and intonation,cuisine and film to better understand Francophone norms and nuances. Written and oral exams will be given regularly.3 RD YEAR GERMAN 1 credit4 TH YEAR GERMAN Prerequisites: 2 nd /3 rd year German (passed with a C or better), or instructor consent CVHS Credit fine art OUS Credit: world language (LBCC College Now credit may be available)This level of German is conducted entirely in German and continues study of reading, writing, speaking and listening from previousGerman courses. 3 rd /4 th year German is intended for those students who have chosen to further develop their proficiency in German.This class encompasses numerous activities, projects and tasks that simulate real life. Students improve their oral and written skills vialevel and age-appropriate composition, literature and conversation. A high emphasis is placed on speaking and participation.3 RD YEAR SPANISH 1 credit Prerequisites: Novice <strong>High</strong> Proficiency level or C or better in 2 nd year Spanish;9 th graders require middle school teacher recommendation CVHS Credit fine art OUS Credit: world language (LBCC College Now credit may be available)In this course new vocabulary and verb tenses will be introduced to take the student beyond his or her immediate needs. Emphasis ison speaking and understanding the spoken language. Students will learn to communicate be-yond basic needs, negotiate some basicsituations with complications, and practice guided writing on familiar topics.
