During the orientation phase of the programme, the trainees found
themselves at numerous JEC work sites, including the electrical
and air-conditioning system site at the Hong Kong Polytechnic
University, chiller system sites in Central that included the IFC
and Chater House and the sewage plant of the Harbour Area
Treatment Scheme (HATS). A great deal of custom-made electrical
and mechanical equipment was shown to the trainees at the HATS
site, including a deodorisation system specially crafted for dirt from
households on Hong Kong Island. These demonstrations provided
trainees with the opportunity to see firsthand the importance of an
upcoming project in Hong Kong – harbour purification.
After these visits to JEC sites, the trainees were also given the
opportunity to visit the sites of other organisations. An unforgettable
example of such visits was their visit to the in-progress Kennedy
Town MTR station, hosted by Gammon Construction. Notably,
touring this underground construction site helped the trainees take
note of the importance of environmental protection during the work
process, as the station had been relocated due to environmental
preservation measures. The trainees were also shown how air
quality and noise control are monitored by engineers at this site
since it is situated within a residential area.
These visits undoubtedly enriched our trainees’ understanding of the
art involved in combining creativity and innovation with advanced
technology at construction sites. Through our site hosts, they are
now equipped with a fuller insight into the world of engineering.

在 迎 新 階 段 , 見 習 生 到 訪 多 個 怡 和 機 器 的 工
地 , 包 括 位 於 香 港 理 工 大 學 的 電 氣 及 空 調 系
統 機 房 、 位 於 中 環 的 國 際 金 融 中 心 及 遮 打 大
廈 的 中 央 冷 卻 系 統 房 及 海 港 淨 化 計 劃 的 污 水
處 理 廠 。 見 習 生 了 解 到 多 個 為 他 們 度 身 訂 造
的 電 氣 及 機 械 儀 器 示 範 , 包 括 為 港 島 區 住 戶
專 門 在 淨 化 海 港 計 劃 工 地 處 理 污 垢 的 除 臭 系
統 。 這 些 示 範 除 了 讓 見 習 生 有 機 會 親 眼 看 到
各 個 儀 器 外 , 也 好 讓 他 們 明 白 香 港 接 下 來 即
將 開 展 的 重 要 計 劃 — 海 港 淨 化 計 劃 。
參 觀 怡 和 機 器 的 工 地 後 , 見 習 生 亦 有 機 會 參
觀 其 他 機 構 的 工 地 。 其 中 一 個 最 難 忘 的 參 觀
正 是 由 金 門 建 築 接 待 , 到 訪 正 在 進 行 工 程 的
堅 尼 地 城 港 鐵 站 。 值 得 注 意 的 是 , 到 地 下 工
地 現 場 參 觀 , 有 助 見 習 生 注 意 在 工 程 進 行
時 , 保 護 環 境 的 重 要 性 。 出 於 環 境 保 護 措 施
的 考 量 , 該 站 的 工 地 已 搬 遷 。 由 於 工 地 位 於
住 宅 區 內 , 見 習 生 還 可 看 到 監 測 空 氣 質 素 和
噪 音 控 制 的 即 場 示 範 。
這 些 參 觀 無 疑 令 見 習 生 大 開 眼 界 , 亦 讓 他
們 了 解 到 如 何 把 建 築 地 盤 的 先 進 技 術 與 創
作 力 互 相 融 合 。 通 過 參 觀 我 們 工 地 , 相 信
各 見 習 生 現 已 具 備 建 築 工 程 的 國 際 視 野 。
