JEC Philippines Raises Funds for Underprivileged Students

JEC Philippines spearheaded the first-ever Lighthouse Philippine
Team for the Asia-Pacific 2012 Lighthouse Club ascent of Mount
Kinabalu, an annual charity event held to raise money for the
Lighthouse Club Asia Pacific Region Benevolent Trust.
On 26 th and 27 th April, JEC Philippines colleagues, together with
team members from the Philippine Lighthouse Club joined the Asia-
Pacific Lighthouse Club Ascent of the 4,095-meter high Mount
Kinabalu. Their climb helped raise money for the Lighthouse Club
fund, which finances underprivileged engineering students through
college and supports the families of injured construction workers.
This year, the aim of the event was to raise US$250,000, of which
the JEC Philippines team contributed nearly US$10,000, all
graciously donated by corporate and individual sponsors.
The grueling walk of about 18 hours in total over the two days took
its toll on the climbers. The air was thinner at higher altitudes, and
their progress became notably slower after they began ascending.
In several places climbers also had to use ropes to make their
way up steep slopes. It was, however, worth the effort to watch the
sunrise from the top of the mountain, the climbers said.

家 庭 提 供 支 援 。 今 年 , 活 動 籌 款 的 目 標 為
二 十 五 萬 美 元 , 其 中 菲 律 賓 怡 和 機 器 的 捐
獻 來 自 企 業 及 個 人 贊 助 , 共 籌 集 接 近 一 萬
美 元 。
橫 跨 兩 天 超 過 十 八 小 時 的 登 山 路 程 實 在 十
分 艱 巨 。 爬 得 越 高 , 空 氣 就 越 稀 薄 , 直 接
減 慢 登 山 進 度 。 登 山 者 甚 至 需 在 某 些 地 勢
陡 峭 的 地 方 利 用 繩 索 攀 爬 。 雖 然 路 途 艱
辛 , 但 登 山 者 表 示 , 能 夠 見 證 到 壯 觀 美 麗
的 日 出 實 在 值 得 。
