5.5.2 Mainstreaming <strong>of</strong> Equality and Evidence-based Policy-making<br />
Pro<strong>of</strong>ing <strong>of</strong> policies and services in the public sector to avoid unanticipated negative impact on any<br />
<strong>of</strong> the groups protected under the equality legislation, to ensure policy coherence and best use <strong>of</strong><br />
resources, will build on the experience <strong>of</strong> gender-pro<strong>of</strong>ing under the NDP, the Working Group on<br />
Equality Pro<strong>of</strong>ing and experience <strong>of</strong> poverty-pro<strong>of</strong>ing.<br />
Gender mainstreaming will continue to be progressed through the work <strong>of</strong> the NDP Gender Equality<br />
Unit in the <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> Justice, Equality and Law Reform, the Equality for Women Measure and<br />
implementation in other policy areas.<br />
The National Children’s Office will continue to bring a better focus and greater impact to Government<br />
activity in relation to children.<br />
An Ombudsman for Children will be appointed in line with the provisions <strong>of</strong> the Ombudsman for<br />
Children Act, 2002.<br />
