EDITOR’S NOTE
Making special
memories and
new friends with
awesome kids in
New York!
Inspiring moments from petiteParade!
W
hat inspires you? I was asked this
question at the beginning of the
year and it’s one I’ve been pondering
since. Chuck Palahniuk wrote
“All the effort in the world won’t
matter if you’re not inspired.”
For creative people the answer
seems simple – everything. Naturally, ‘everything’
was too simple a conclusion. I dug a little
deeper, turning to some of the world’s top
female leaders for insight...
Investigative Emmy-nominated journalist Trish
Regan attributed her source of inspiration to
the enormous and innate responsibility of journalism.
Founder of RedBallon, Naomi Simson
said “Tell me I ‘cannot’ do, be or have something
– and that is the surest way to inspire me
into action.” While CEO of Muse, Kathryn Minshew
noted, “There’s nothing like standing on
top of a mountain to make you feel powerful.” Though I let the question slide,
the motivating words of these women stuck with me.
I had the opportunity to travel a lot this year; from coast to coast I met so many
amazing fans and inspiring people who truly conjured in me a sense of responsibility
– not only to our fans but also our contributors – that now encourages
each issue.
Although I’ve been fortunate enough not to meet many doubters I am often my
own biggest critic. This year I’ve learned to turn my instances of self-doubt into
moments of reflection, inspiration and ultimately catalysts.
We’ve been working in New York quite a bit this year. Though there is nothing
glamorous about the morning commute, (the trains are congested and the
shear number of people is overwhelming) the experience has been amazing.
With Frank Sinatra’s voice ringing in my years – “I want to be a part of it, New
York – New York. I want to walk up in the city that never sleeps… If I can make
there I’ll make it anywhere!” – walking down 6th Ave, Empire State Building in
view, anything feels possible and everything is achievable. Standing in Central
Park, magazine in hand, I am continuously encouraged and inspired by the city.
New York is my mountain.
So, what inspires me? Perhaps I haven’t found the answer yet or maybe I truly
am inspired by everything – either way, this year has taught me to not only see
inspiration but to capture and harness it.
