PARTICIPANTS<br />

We conducted:<br />

• 35 in-depth interviews across low- to middle-income<br />

<strong>Somaliland</strong>ers, 66 percent male/33 percent female split<br />

(1 group interview), across a range of professions,<br />

including: pastoralists, farmers, students, Zaad agent,<br />

livestock agents, stall-holders, entrepreneurs and small<br />

business owners. Ages 19 to 60s<br />

• 25 ad hoc interviews<br />

• 4 expert interviews with directors at e-Dahab, Zaad<br />

Shuraako and MicroDahab<br />

• Contextual interviews in homes, markets, universities,<br />

retail spaces, where people hang out.<br />

• Observations<br />

• Service use and abuse of Zaad, e-Dahab, Dahabshiil<br />

Remittance, Money Exchange, Livestock Market/<br />

brokering<br />

Where our local team map to our recruiting criteria, they<br />

are included in the ad hoc and in-depth interview figures<br />

depending on the depth of insight gleaned.<br />
