The word ‘Bawariya’ means, the people The Bawariya is a Hindu caste,<br />

who roam in Hindi.<br />

which is found in the states<br />

of Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar<br />

20 Pradesh and Punjab in India.<br />

The tribe has a scheduled caste<br />

status in Uttar Pradesh and<br />

Punjab states. They are also<br />

known as ‘Bauria’ in Punjab.<br />

The Bawariya is considered as<br />

a community of people and not<br />

a caste, but the caste system of<br />

India puts them into the caste<br />

category. The tribe keeps away<br />

from the caste system practiced<br />

in India and still retain their<br />

original nomadic lifestyle. At<br />

present, the Bawariya Community<br />

is found in the Banda, Meerut,<br />

Manipur, Muzaffarnagar and Agra<br />

districts of the Uttar Pradesh and<br />

Haryana states of the country.<br />

Their language is Bawari, which<br />

is quite similar to the Marwari.<br />
