Harsh Varshana was defeated
by the Chalukya King of Vatapi,
Pulakesi II, during the 630 BC.
The Vardhana Dynasty came
to an end with the death of
Harshavardhana, after ruling
over the Indian subcontinent for
more than 41 years.
Bengal and captured Eastern
Punjab, Bengal, Bihar and
Odissi. He also took over the
Dhruvasena and Ganjam parts
of the modern Odissi State.
Farmers paid 1/6th of their
produce as taxes to the
government during the period
of Harsh Varshana. There
was no death penalty during
his period. Harsha Varshana
was very generous, he had
given all his personal wealth
and belongings in charity, in
the Prayag Kumbh, that was
happened one in every five
years.
Initially, Harsha Vardhana was
the follower of Hinduism, but
later he became a Buddhist
and followed Mahayana
Buddhism. He worshiped the
Lord Siva and Sun God. Harsh
Varshana was defeated by
the Chalukya King of Vatapi,
Pulakesi II, during the 630 BC.

Vardhana died in A.D.647
and the empire was split into
many small states. As he did
not have any heirs, his empire
rapidly collapsed into small
states again.
