Prabhakara Vardhana<br />

was the first king and the<br />

founder of the Vardhana<br />

dynasty. The downfall of the<br />

Gupta Empire resulted into a<br />

number of small independent<br />

kingdoms in North India.<br />

There was a kingdom at<br />

Thaneswar, that was ruled by<br />

the Vardhana dynasty. It was<br />

the capital of Prabhakara<br />

Vardhana kingdom. Now, it is<br />

a small town situated in the<br />

vicinity of Kurukshetra in the<br />

Haryana state of India.<br />

The first king had two sons,<br />

named Rajya Vardhana and<br />

Harsha Vardhana and only<br />

one daughter, Rajyasree.<br />

Prabhakara Vardhana died<br />

after a few years and his son<br />

Rajya Vardhana succeeded<br />

him, but the enemies<br />

murdered him soon and then<br />

Harsha became the ruler of<br />

Thaneswar in A.D. 606. He<br />

ruled the Kingdom up to A<br />

D 647. Harsha Vardhana<br />

defeated the kings of Kanauj<br />

and Malwa.<br />

Harsha Vardhana was a great<br />

Emperor of India. He ruled<br />

over the northern parts of<br />

India for a period 40 years.<br />

His Kingdom was spread<br />

over the states of Bengal,<br />

Punjab, Odissi and across the<br />

Indo-Gangetic plain. Harsha<br />

extended his empire from<br />
