product, and the radiance appears day-by-day. I also loved
Tan-Luxe Illuminating Serum Self Tan Facial
Drops, £31 for 30ml (qvcuk.com) – but be sure to choose
the Light option, not Dark, no matter how deeply you’re
craving a tan.
If you really are having a tanning SOS and need to be
bronzed pronto, there are some products which impressed
us. Personally? I’d go for a wash-off tanner, used over
gradual tanner (while that gets to work); I don’t think you
can go wrong with This Works Perfect Legs Skin
Miracle, £37 for 200ml, which most certainly works on
arms and other bits, not just legs. But if you really want
swift results, I heartily recommend the Vita Liberata
Phenomenal Marula Self Tan Oil, £39 for 100ml,
which glides on beautifully, instantly tinting and gilding
legs, arms and more (it has little gold flecks, too), while
working to deliver longer-lasting colour. The Guerlain
Tinted Self Tanning Gel, £37.50 for 200ml, is also a
joy to use (as you might expect from Guerlain): silky and
scented with exotic tiaré, a tropical white flower. And of
the natural options, the one which continues to impress,
summer after summer, is Green People Certified
Organic Self Tan Lotion, £21 for 200ml: completely
non-streaky, non-whiffy, leaving skin really beautifully
moisturised. (It doesn’t, however, have a tint – you’ll have to
wait for results.)
Need a quick sunburst on your face? Bronzer’s your best
bet – but these now come as gels as well as powders. I was
really rather impressed by Too Faced Chocolate Soleil,
£25 – it smells chocolate-y, in a good way, but above and
beyond that delivers a really realistic colour with a matte
finish, brushed on with a fluffy brush. But for an easy-peasy,
quick swoosh of colour, moisturise skin and go for Estée
Lauder Bronze Goddess Gelee Bronzer, £33 for
30ml: a brilliant little tube of instant sunshine, which is just
so easy to blend.
And if you’ve ever thought being a beauty editor is
all glamour, it’s not. This was genuinely hard and often
unpleasant work (while acknowledging: nothing like being a
miner/streetsweeper/hod-carrier). A few weeks on, however,
I no longer smell like a hamster cage. The conker-brown
elbows and heels are history. I’m quite simply a gorgeous,
healthy shade of light gold. But you can shine your
Mastermind light in my face, John Humphrys – because
there ain’t anything I don’t know about this particular
specialist subject…
