costs in the long term and this has to be weighed against the
short term savings of repair versus buying new. When considering
new, often the priority is to find windows that will provide all the
benefits of double glazing, without ruining the look and feel of
the property. Of course there’s also the cost of redecoration after
the windows have been installed and as Sales Director, Ben Flatt
says: “One of the great advantages of Heritage windows is that
they fit into existing timber sub-frames which dispenses with the
need for redecoration.”
Does a building being listed make a difference? Heritage
regularly deal with Local Councils and Listings Officers who like
the slim lines and bespoke features of the Conservation range. In
fact, Heritage windows were originally conceived in response to
an enquiry for aluminium replacement windows from the tenants
of a London mansion block.
What are the benefits of modern windows? Modern double
glazing delivers many benefits to homeowners. For example
the Heritage Conservation range not only offers better thermal
performance – having achieved an ‘A’ performance rating and a
1.6+ U value – but satisfy all the latest building regulations for
replacement or new build applications. The ‘polyamide thermal
resin break’ reduces condensation and argon-filled double-glazed
sealed units ensure the noise stays out and more of the heat stays
in – keeping those heating bills down. Multipoint shootbolt
locking provides extra security as well. And the tough powder
coated paint finish is highly durable and requires virtually no
maintenance.
Is it possible to have a modern window that looks exactly
like an old window? Incorporation of locking mechanisms and
the width of double-glazed sealed units means it is not possible
to match a traditional style window exactly. However, the
comparison (below) shows just how close they have come, and
with a profile of just 39mm – the Heritage Conservation range is
the slimmest aluminium window available in the UK.
