Focus on EMS2016 Championship EMS Championship - Who will be the best under pressure? During the EMS2016 Congress in Copenhagen you will we be able to challenge yourself and your team of EMS colleagues in the competition: European EMS Championship 2016. The Championship will be a fun, challenging and educational experience for emergency medical personnel. The competition will be all about team work, skills, experience and the ability to find a solution, when challenged. By Anne Lippert and Doris Østergaard, Copenhagen Academy for Medical Education and Simulation (CAMES) The European EMS Championship introduces competitors and audiences to new techniques and technology that can be used to manage patients and settings of different levels of urgency and complexity. The competition also enables participants to share their expertise, experience, techniques and technology with EMS colleagues from all over the world. The competition will consist of scenariobased events that test each team’s ability to manage patients in various circumstances with common critical medical conditions and trauma. The teams will compete in two rounds. The first round will identify the teams to compete in the final round on Tuesday afternoon at a spectacular plenum setting in the congress hall. All scenarios will be followed by feedback from the international panel of judges. The winning team will take home the honor, the EMS Championship trophy as well as free congress passes for the EMS2017. Who can join, and what does it take? A team must consist of three people with a healthcare background; the points given will be adjusted according to their level of education. In this way, it will be possible for a team consisting of three EMT’s to compete on an equal footing with a team consisting of advanced paramedics or emergency physicians. The teams will bring their own uniform and prehospital kit/ bag, while all additional equipment will be provided by the organizers. The teams will be assessed according to their demonstrated technical skills as well as non-technical skills such as teamwork, communication, and leadership. How do I get my team signed up? You can now sign up for the EMS Championship at www.ems2016.org. The number of teams is, due to logistic challenges, limited to a total of 16. Biography: Dr Anne Lippert Anne Lippert, MD, FERC, is Deputy Director of the Copenhagen Academy for Medical Education and Simulation (CAMES), a position, which she has held full-time for the last 8 years. She is trained as a specialist in anaesthesiology with subspecialty in Intensive Care Medicine. Anne has been involved with simulation training for more than 18 years and has been part of the development of the current largest institute for simulation in Denmark. Anne Lippert holds a Certificate in Health Professions Education from the University of Dundee (2010). Anne has worked with Rapid Response Systems for many years and has been the author of Guidelines for the introduction of RRS in Denmark as well as a member of the Regional board for RRS and is a member of the board in International Society for Rapid Response Systems and head of the meeting committee. Biography: Doris Østergaard Doris Østergaard, is Professor in Medical Education and Simulation, and Head of the Regional Simulation Center, CAMES – Copenhagen Academy for Medical Education and Simulation, in the Capital Region of Denmark. Doris is an anesthesiologist with a special interest in education. Doris works full time with medical education and simulation based training. Doris has a Master’s in Medical Education and in the last 15 years her research activities have been related to the link between patient safety, simulation based training and emergency situations. She is supervising several Ph.D. projects within these fields. She is an Associate Editor for the European Journal of Anesthesiology. Doris is a member of the Educational Board of the Danish Society for Anesthesia and Intensive Care and is responsible for the national training program for specialist training in anesthesia.
