Birtle Scarecrow Competition - Monday 30th
May from 10am
The theme this year is "Cartoon or Comic
Characters"
10am judging with winners being announced at
2pm at the Pack Horse, Birtle.
Entry forms available from either Carol at the Pack
Horse or from Birtle Riding Centre.
This year, children are welcome to enter. If they
live in the 'Birtle Loop', they can display their
scarecrows in their garden otherwise in the Car
Park at the Pack Horse. Contact Carol at the Pack
Horse for further info.
The WI
The Norden W.I. meet at Cutgate Baptist Church at
7.30pm for 7.45pm start on the first Wednesday
of each month. Norden WI host lots of interesting
events and talks throughout the year.
The date of the next meeting is:-
Wednesday 1st June where there will be a talk
from a member of the NHS Clinical Commissioning
Group to include patient participation. Visitors are
very welcome.

Oulder Hill Pre-school Play Group – Queens
90th Birthday Party
On Friday 10th June 2016 we are having a party
day to celebrate the Queens 90th Birthday
All are welcome to come and play. We have places
for September 2016 if you would like to reserve a
place for your 2-4 yr old. Oulder Hill Play Group is
based at Greave Base, Denehurst Road, Rochdale,

Norden Carnival – 18th June
The preparations for this year's Carnival are
coming together as everyone gets into the 'Circus'
theme. The Carnival falls on the 18th June, the
Saturday before Father's Day so it'll be ideal to
pick up those last minute treats for your Dad.
There'll be plenty of entertainment at Norden
School after the parade has passed through the
village. There'll be a range of funfair rides as well
as live music, too. We're really interested in
hearing from anyone interested in joining the
parade. There's no fee to enter and local charities
and community groups are given a donation each
year. We ask that each group get into the spirit of
the Parade and dress up in this year's theme of
'Circus'. In the past we've had local pubs, all the
schools, charities and local businesses getting
involved. The parade has been getting better and
better each year - we're sure this year will exceed

Norden & District Local History Society
Norden Bowling Club, Trinity Street from 7pm. The
Norden and District Local History Society meet on
the 1st Monday of every month from 7pm. Contact

Friends of Norden Jubilee Park
Friends of Norden Jubilee Park are seeking more
volunteers to help out with our Green Group.
The Friends of Norden Jubilee Park, Green Group
have sprung into action preparing the park ready
for Spring. With the upcoming North West in
Bloom competition approaching, the volunteers
have been hard at it, dead heading perennials
and shrubs. Chairman of Friends of Norden Jubilee
Park said "Each year the park is looking better and
better!" It is held the last Sunday of each month,
12 noon until 2pm, meeting at Jubilee Park, next
to the Bridge Inn Chippy, to carry out various
jobs within the park. We are making a difference
throughout Norden to make it a more attractive
and greener place to live. Everyone welcome,
bring down the kids too!

Guided Walks & Tours
Syke Walk and Talk Group with Cutgate meet
every Tuesday at 10.00 am outside the
Doctor's.Surgery on Cutgate Precinct. The walks
are free and open to everyone. All abilities
catered for. All walks are sponsored by the Clinical
Commission Group formerly, Walking for Health,
run by the NHS.
Friends of Rochdale Art Gallery, Touchstones,
The Esplanade Rochdale – Tuesday 14th
June
On Tuesday 14th June, Hannah Leighton Boyce
will talk about her recent exhibition ‘instruments
of industry’at Touchstones which responded to
collections of handtools from the museum’s
archive. Tea/coffee & biscuits served at 12.15pm
to 12.45pm. Speaker 12.45pm – 1.45pm.

Springhill Hospice Events
Sunday 5th June – Dogs Show and Country
Fete Traditional fete and fun fair with craft market
and stalls and a very popular dog show. £1
entrance donation, 11am – 3pm. Rochdale riding
club showground.
Saturday 2nd July – Springy’s Sprint or
Stroll Join hundreds of Springy’s followers,
hopping, skipping and jumping around this 10km
sponsored walk course. Starts 9pm from Rochdale
Rugby Union Club.
Summer Serenade – 23rd July 6pm for
6.30pm Sit back, relax in our award winning
Hospice grounds and take in the evening
