Total Licensing Australia is
published as a special issue of
Total Licensing magazine.
Welcome to the March 2016 edition of Total Licensing Australia.
A number of you will have already seen this issue online
but others, of course, will be picking up their copies at what
looks set to be a busy Toy, Hobby and Licensing Fair.
Licensors, agents, manufacturers and licensees are going into
the Melbourne fair with the news that retailing in Australia experienced
positive growth last year. Local retailers, particularly
those trading online, benefited from a marked decline of the
Australian dollar against the US dollar, as prices in foreign online
stores increased instantly. Australian consumers returned
to local online retailers as their prices became more competitive.
In terms of the all-important Christmas sales, Australian retailers
had a very happy Christmas last year with growth up
four percent on the previous year. In fact, total retail spend
for December last year was $24.8 billion and online retailing,
which continues to show substantial growth, increased by a
significant 11.2 percent.
Of course licensing continues to play an ever-more important
part of retail success, particularly in the toy marketplace. Last
year, the extraordinary success of Frozen, which was reported
to be largely responsible for the decline of Barbie, has been
followed this year by a strong roster of properties, with Star
Wars of course leading the march.
This issue has a good mix of properties, some new, some revisited
such as the Teletubbies and others with heritage, like The
Wiggles who are celebrating 25 years. We hope you enjoy this
licensing snapshot and find the issue helpful. Do keep us up
to date with news and information, not just for Total Licensing
Australia but also for our weekly online newsletter and our
flagship magazines Total Licensing and Total Brand Licensing
which now reach readers in more than 106 countries.
We look forward to hearing from you.
