TOTAL LICENSING AUSTRALIA BORN LICENSING CELEBRATE TRANSFORMERS CLIP LICENSE FOR HOMEBUILDER Sydney-based SLR Productions recently announced production on its new series Lexi & Lottie and will see the Australian production house team up again with its long-term partners, Telegael, Super RTL, ZDF Enterprises and Network Ten. The 26 x 22 minute animated series is aimed at 6 to 9 year olds. Executive produced by SLR Productions’ Suzanne Ryan and Telegael’s Paul Cummins, the series will feature SLR Productions’ Jo Boag as Creative Director, Script Producer Melanie Alexander and Born Licensing is celebrating a hugely successful and innovative clip licensing campaign which launched late 2015. Australian homebuilder Simonds Homes has incorporated clip licensing techniques into the biggest and most unique advertising campaign of its 65- year history. Simonds Homes, along with their creative agency T20 Group, created a unique Transformers robot out of building materials and home products, which featured in their TV commercial. Born Licensing secured the deal with Hasbro, the rights holder of Transformers. The activity is a great example of an advertiser thinking outside the square. “This campaign is a wonderful example of the enormous potential clip licensing has to offer, which is no longer just about leveraging existing footage,” commented David Born. “In June last year, the T20 Group reached out following the creation of their brilliant Transformer concept. Born Licensing managed liaison with licensor Hasbro, pitched the creative direction and worked through all costs and process.” The Simonds Homes campaign included television, online and cinema commercials that ran throughout October and November, complimented by printed marketing collateral, placement in cinema foyers and signage at all Simonds Homes display centres. “This campaign demonstrates Simonds Homes and the T20 Group’s forward-thinking approach to their campaigns,” said David Born. “Clip licensing is utilised regularly and highly successfully in the USA, but it’s still very much in its early stages in Australia. “As more and more domestic advertisers and their agencies consider what clip licensing can do for them, it’s a really exciting time to be in the industry. Entertainment brands are loved, trusted and attention-grabbing – all essential attributes in an age where consumers can so easily switch off, ignore or even avoid advertising altogether.” Daniel Senia, National Manager, Group Marketing at Simonds Homes said, “Every year we launch a major new campaign with a fresh angle. And every year we strive to find a way to better what’s come before. When the T20 Group presented the idea of utilising a well-known brand such as Transformers, we knew we had to jump at it. The concept of clip SLR BEGIN WORK ON NEW SERIES licensing was new to us, but the process was much easier than expected. This campaign was an ambitious project, and I’m thrilled with the result.” The campaign was officially launched at a special event held on 24 September at ACMI, Melbourne. The television version of the advertisement premiered on AFL Grand Final Day - one of the biggest television days annually. Director Greg Ingram. Created in-house at SLR Productions to deliver on the market’s demand for comedy and super-sleuth detective stories for the 6 to 9 year old audience, the series was developed in 2015 with Super RTL and the Australian Children’s Television Foundation in Australia providing scripting assistance. “Telegael, Super RTL, ZDF Enterprises and Network Ten are always exceptional partners and I am thrilled to be making this show with them.
