What was the interview process like?<br />
My first and second round interviews<br />
were ‘enjoyable’, insofar as interviews<br />
can be, as they felt like natural and<br />
informative conversations I might have<br />
with fellow course mates.<br />
How much responsibility do you have?<br />
Responsibilities are well distributed<br />
throughout the team and there is no<br />
‘division of labour’ i.e. no one person is<br />
dedicated to a narrow specialisation of<br />
tasks.<br />
What advice would you give to<br />
students applying for your role?<br />
Prepare for the standard ‘competency’<br />
based questions, but also focus<br />
on coming across as friendly and<br />
presentable. Have a think about broader<br />
industry trends and demonstrate your<br />
flare for your chosen stream/sector.<br />

What do you most enjoy about your<br />
role?<br />
I like tax because it is not all about the<br />
stereotypical number crunching - it is<br />
centred on advisory, finding tax-efficient<br />
solutions for complex transactions, and it<br />
is about client relationships.<br />
What is the office atmosphere like?<br />
<strong>The</strong> office has a friendly but professional<br />
vibe. People are willing to take the time to<br />
explain concepts and the context around<br />
the work they are giving you, which is<br />
motivating and furthers your professional<br />
and commercial development.<br />
What activities are there outside of<br />
work?<br />
We respect that the usual pub/bar trips<br />
may not be fully inclusive. As a member<br />
of my team’s social committee, we<br />
organise team socials which should<br />
appear to all team members. BDO holds<br />
seasonal events such as Christmas and<br />
summer parties.<br />
How promising are the graduate<br />
prospects?<br />
<strong>The</strong> graduate programme involves a<br />
set-path for career progression, which<br />
gives you the time and support to get<br />
the exams out of the way. I am doing the<br />
ACA-CTA which gives you 2 qualifications<br />
in the time of 1.<br />
