WELCOME
Kate & Becky
Welcome to the October issue. We really hope that you all had a great
summer!
Over the last couple of months, we have been sent some interesting
community articles which are featured in this month’s issue.
We recently went to visit the Patel family who run the Nisa store in
Shawclough as they are celebrating 25 years in business, having originally
purchased the shop in 1991. The shop is now run by Dharmendra Patel (or
Danny as he’s more commonly known) and his wife Sunita and is a hub of
the local community offering a wide range of provisions as well as services
all of which are listed on pages 28 and 29.
Gary Heywood-Everett continues his ‘From the Archives’ features with an
article about James Duckworth who ran a chain of grocery stores in
Rochdale, opening his first shop on Oldham Road in 1868 and soon moving
onto wholesale trade.
On Sunday 13th November, Whitworth residents young and old will gather
to remember those lost or injured during times of conflict. The
commemorations will begin with a procession which will leave from the
former Town Council Offices at 10.20am – full details on page 36.
Keep your copy of Streetwise handy throughout the month as the What’s
On Pages are packed with local events taking place in the next few weeks.
Thanks to all the kind comments we have received over the summer about
the magazines – it is clear that Streetwise is well received by local residents
and is considered to be the only community magazine in the area.
Until next month……
