We’re finally allowed and encouraged to buy directly from the catwalk without having to spend the next six months drooling over lucky VIPs parading the clothes we glimpsed at thanks to our fashionistas and their uber quick instagramming! This new approach is a definite catalyst to a compulsive buying frenzy, encouraging us to indulge simply by the touch of a button. For those of you, who like me, spend vast winter months glued to their screens, followed by great outbursts of excitement at the prospect of a black delivery van at your front gate, this new deal is sheer heaven. Straight in your closet is the new motto. How ‘insta-amazing’ and what an ‘insta-result’ for our crazily ‘insta-manic world’. The festive season suddenly kicks in with the urge of compiling endless wish lists, and luckily, our influential fashion bloggers have highlighted the best things to get hold of this season, from trench coats, to stirrup trousers, to heritage knitwear, or opulent velvet dresses. This year, I am compelled to opt for something much more distinctive and personal to give as a present and cheekily to hint as a wish... Monogram-mania will definitely sweep me off my feet this Christmas. I feel a complete fondness for branding and have decided that there is nothing more touching and exciting than receiving a personalised gift. Is there anything more loveable than a customised present, adjusted, modified, styled, cut and trimmed just to please the one you love? Over the years this trend has crept up across seasons, across bags, cushions, slippers, embossed diaries and even Nutella. Personalising shows that an object is valuable enough to hold on for some time, and suddenly something otherwise ordinary is no longer throwaway fashion. ‘See now, love forever’ sounds far better. The Italian in me tends to always want to monogram everything and anything in sight; this obviously includes linen, jewellery, trainers, stationary, furniture, cars, children, dogs… the lot! L/UNIFORM The Cambridge Satchel Company I believe that your own unique piece inevitably exudes more than a touch of class; the warmest conceivable thought. It has been cared for, touched and designed especially for you. Some see it as narcissism on leather. I would simply define it as a thrill, which provides me with a sense of importance and a feeling like that is never ever going to go out of fashion, right? I will share my piping hot list which will surely lift your spirits whilst tackling the Christmas shopping! Velvet Magazine | November 2016 59
