3. Cardio
The ups: Whether it be running, swimming, cycling, rowing, or
even brisk walking, some forms of cardio mean you just have to
step outside your front door and start moving. They all tend to act
as a great stress reliever and many cardio lovers often talk about
getting lost in the music or thoughts throughout their workout.
The pace is entirely down to you too! It doesn’t matter what your
ability, everyone can start a form of cardio, on your own or with
people, at your own speed, in your own style.
The downs: All forms of cardio tend to take up a lot of time,
and again, unless you’re doing it with someone, no one is there
to pull you back out of a streak of poor attendance. The lack of
investment sometimes doesn’t help either. With no financial
commitment there is even less reason for you to keep going,
especially in the colder months.
HIIT, weight training and cardio, are the three main candidates
for most people when starting to look into the exercise part of
their New Year’s resolution. But which one is best!? If you’ve
been reading over my articles the past few months, you may
have noticed a common theme. I believe we are looking at many
of our health targets from the wrong angle, and I feel the same
about our fitness mindset too. Whenever people talk to me about
fitness or exercise, they automatically assume they have to go
through hell to get any type of result. We all do it, that thought
of extra energy expenditure leaves us feeling very ‘urgh’ as the
end of the day creeps in or the thought of having to get up earlier
just to feel uncomfortable makes hitting that snooze button all
the more inviting. It doesn’t have to be that way! Aim to enjoy
moving, anything is better than doing nothing. Even if you stick on
an audio book and go for a walk, maybe you turn up to an exercise
class and go slower than normal, or lift lighter than everyone else.
Every exercise session does not have to be a battle. Look to enjoy
moving and the feeling of doing something rather than nothing.
The best type of exercise is the one you enjoy most.
At Revolution Fitness Academy, we run over 66 sessions per
week. We give you unlimited access to all of them and you can
book in and out of classes straight from our app. That sorts any
flexibility problems out. Each session has no more than eight
people and there is a highly-qualified or experienced coach to
take you through every minute and every bead of sweat. You also
have your own 24/7 nutrition and support coach on hand, over
the phone to keep you motivated and feeling good.
Here’s the fun part, you will have no idea what you’ll be doing until
you get there. The only thing you can be sure of is, you will be fully
supported by the coach and anyone else in the session. Slowly
start changing the way you look at exercise, enjoy it, experiment,
try new things with people. Learn to enjoy moving and challenging
yourself, then you’ll discover the most consistent form of exercise
you’ve ever done.
