Abbeycroft Leisure has opened the doors to Trumpington Sport;
a new fitness and leisure centre with an abundance of fantastic facilities
If you aren’t already aware, Abbeycroft
Leisure already has facilities in Brandon,
Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill, Mildenhall,
Newmarket, Thurston and Felixstowe, and
Trumpington Sport is its latest addition. It
will be a part of Trumpington Community
College, a brand new school which opened
back in September by Parkside Federation.
The school itself accommodates up to
750 pupils and is also a part of the Great
Kneighton development which will, when
completed, see 2,550 new homes and a
120-acre park. It’s a fantastic time for the
local community and the sports centre itself
will be open for all. Abbeycroft Leisure is a
registered charity which operates as a social
enterprise, meaning it re-invests any profit
back into improving the community so you
can certainly see why they’ve become a part
of this exciting new venture.
We were lucky enough to get a sneak
peek of the development back in August
as work was nearing completion and we
couldn’t believe the size of it. Located
on Lime Street, there’s a fully-equipped
gym, four-court sports hall, dance studio
and a full-size, all-weather pitch. There
is even an outdoor multi-use games area
for sports such as tennis and netball. The
gym has been kitted out with the latest
Matrix technology equipment. There will
be a well-stocked cardiovascular area, a
spacious free weight area and an array of
other resistance and strength conditioning
machines. An open day was held at the
end of last month, where visitors were
able to see and trial the new facilities and
local clubs offered demonstrations. There
was also a chance to explore the outdoor
climbing wall for those seeking something
a little more adventurous! If you’re perhaps
lacking motivation and prefer the energy
a class, there is a varied timetable running
the usual Les Mills favourites. From Body
Attack, Body Combat, RPM, Body Pump
and even Zumba, whether you’re looking
to tone up, slim down or strengthen,
they’re great for adding enjoyment to your
workout. Trumpington Sport will be open
every evening and throughout the weekend.
