Maverick Minutes Madhu Rao, Secretary I would like to thank Lisa Steele for her willingness to record the minutes from this meeting on my behalf. John Hamilton started off the meeting with the statement, “I hope this meeting is efficient and not lengthy.” Everyone in the room looked happy to keep their reports quick and to the point. Madhu Rao was unable to attend the meeting but John happily reported information on Madhu’s behalf. Madhu thanked everyone in the region (that is you!) for your great response to the Maverick Region survey. Our region generated☺190 completed surveys for a 16% response rate. Great job! For more information check the September edition of Slipstream for an article which presented a synopsis of the survey. Additionally, Madhu presented an update regarding the 2012 Maverick Region elections. He thanked the nominating committee for their help with the election as they have produced a full ballot for the Executive Council offices now. The ballot will be printed in the October issue of Slipstream. Those interested in voting may do so via mail and/or in person at the Founders’ Day event on November 12, when the results will be announced. Madhu also shared a concept idea of posting the ballot on the Maverick Region website. He is looking into the feasibility of doing this. Robyn Howard confirmed to everyone that there will be a Swap Meet on Oct.1st at Zims. She also reminded everyone of the Time Trial and Autocross for the upcoming weekend. Jim Falgout reported that $14,000 still needs to be paid by advertisers. We have a current club balance of $38,000. Richard Bradley announced that Slipstream is going very well and he still has several Parade articles to publish in the upcoming months. Chris Christensen informed the group that all insurance is covered. He also reminded the group that the next Happy Hour will be at Trinity Hall Pub which is always a great location for Mavericks to get together. Carey Spreen announced that there will be a Tour/ Photo Rally to San Martino Winery on Oct. 23. Carey also brought a few samples of older Slipstreams and would like for them to be on display at this Founder’s Day to show how far our club has come over the past 50 years. Ed Mullenix is still working on possibly confirming a Tech Session for October. He plans on talking with Nerces at Autoscope to set up a Dyno Day for October 22. Brendan Eagan has been busy contacting the local dealerships to help promote and encourage people to join PCA. Park Place, Boardwalk, and Autobahn all agreed to put a Slipstream, Panorama, and our local brochure in every right seat of new and used Porsches that go out the door. Way to go Brendan! Are you trying to tell Lisa Steele that you want the Membership Chair position? Mike Brodigan noted that he had a meeting with the DE committee. The focus of the meeting was to decrease expenses. One idea that came out of the meeting was a special one day DE/TT event. This one-day event will run two events, a DE in the first half and a Time Trial in the second half. This exciting event is scheduled for May 2, and the event has a special name, The Texas 2-Step! More to come... John Harvey was excited to announce that he would be leaving Friday for Boxtoberfest in Fredericksburg. He sure was excited that we will have 23 couples from the Maverick Region attending this year. The event has an all time high of 111 cars this year. John also reported that on September 25, the Sunday Drive group will drive to Cresson and visit the track, Motorsport Ranch, to get a little introduction to DE. Denny Payne reported that for the first time ever we submitted our local Web Page at Parade. He was pleased to announce that we received high marks from two judges with some really good feedback that Denny plans on incorporating. Denny is also looking for people to help redesign the website. Christy Payne did not have much to report. She reminded the group that this year’s Founder’s Day will be on November 12, at the Hilton in Southlake. Lisa Steele was very excited to report that we have exceeded the 2,000 mark for membership. We currently have 2,012 members in our wonderful club. She was elated to share that the number of non-renewals is decreasing each month. WooHoo! Way to go Membership Team!! Linda Bambina is working hard with the 50th Anniversary events and activities. She is starting to write Articles containing special events, activities, or quotes from Mavericks. She will be contacting people via email so make sure you respond with all of your special memories of the Maverick Region Porsche Club. Wendy Shoffit announced that she has about 30 directories available. She also noted that our local Club Race registration will open this weekend. Wendy has also been busy getting ideas from other editors of other regions. She shared with 8
September 7, 2011 the group a printed postcard from one Region, which listed several upcoming events. Another region has a Wounded Warriors Project which helps people injured in war. These individuals are invited out to various events. She posed the question: “Are there additional charities we should look at in addition to Hope Shelter?” Barbara and Tom Minnella were present and had nothing to report. However, you will see Tom’s name on this year’s Officer Ballot as he will be running for Vice President. Look for the Ballot soon with these names: President – John Hamilton, Vice President – Tom Minnella, Treasurer – Jim Falgout, Secretary – Madhu Rao. Travis Howard noted that 11 people were currently signed up for the upcoming Time Trial and 14 cars were registered for the Autocross. John Hamilton ended the very efficient meeting with announcing that Bill Miller has been chosen as this month’s Mav of the Month. Congratulations, Bill! Meeting adjourned at 8:11 pm. October 9
