and it would fulfill his French military
obligation. The US Marines were glad
to have him...his fellow Marines could
not pronounce his last name, so they
gave him his nickname: “Bullets.” That
seems an appropriate name! Best of
all, he managed to stay out of Vietnam,
in spite of being fluent in French.
Bonus: He got his US citizenship!
His 1st Porsche was a 1970 911S
Targa. He sold it years ago, but has
recently located the current owner
and plans to go see it this summer...
he is thinking about making the guy
an offer? He has decided that his old
1970 911S was/is his first love. His
current Porsche is a 2008 C4S Cab.
He’s gotten the racing bug and is
thinking about getting a race car, so
that may dictate what his next car is.
He didn’t bring his car to Savannah,
so we gave him a few rides. We went
to dinner on an off night. He bought
the bottle of wine (I owe him now).
Now to the important stuff: He has
Nikon gear. I have difficulty liking
people with Canon kits! [joke]
Jean-Francois LOVED his 1st
Parade! He is planning to attend the
2012 Parade in Salt Lake City. I told
him about all you guys in Maverick
Region...said you were friendly,
active, and some of you were crazy
(you know if I’m describing YOU).
If you attend Parade next year (and
you should!), I’ll introduce you to
my new best friend, Jean-Francois.
Heck, he could be one of our many
Honorary Maverick Region members?
You new members really should try
a Parade. The People are outstanding!
And there are some nice cars too...
Footnote: After I had completed this
article, I got an e-mail from Jean-
Francois...he was in the Emergency
room! He went out for his normal
25 mile bike ride on back-country
roads...he says it was a beautiful
morning. About 6.5 miles into his
ride a truck pulling a trailer had to
stay right to avoid oncoming traffic
and hit Jean-Francois. He doesn’t

remember the hit, just the driver telling
him he was sorry. So far, he seems to
have “dodged the bulycz”...nothing
broken; brain and spine intact. I asked
him how he felt and he answered:
“Sore like when you get hit
by a truck or spent the night
in a food processor!”
I’m just thankful I didn’t lose another
friend...
