IN PRAISE OF CAPT. DESAI:
“The pleasure reaches the sky when
it is a flight with Capt. Danny Desai.
What a man! Full of principles yet so
entertaining. I have had the opportunity
to fly with him about 7 to 8 times. All
the times that I have travelled with him,
he has never repeated a single sentence
(does he have a glossary kit?). It’s always
clever, witty, quick and funny – whether
it’s a simple greeting or giving some
flight information. Every time I travel
with him, I see an umpteen number
of messages for him coming from the
passengers. Once a group of 18 of us
were travelling from work, and none of
us was sitting together, and as usual,
there were these letters handed over
to the flight attendants for delivering
to Capt. Desai. Later on, I realised that
all my colleagues had written because
they were so mesmerised by his speech.
Another incident was when I was on my
way to Mumbai on the day of the floods.
The aircraft was already boarded when
we received the news of heavy flooding
in Mumbai. We all waited inside the
aircraft thinking that the flight would be
cancelled. But soon the aircraft started
moving towards the runway, and we all
started praying, and just then there was
an announcement from the cockpit. It
said, ‘This is your captain, Capt. Danny
Desai.’ That’s when I was relieved
and knew we would land safely. He
always makes sure that each and every
passenger is comfortable. In the arrival
hall, passengers met him as though he
was a hero (he indeed is). It’s difficult to
find someone so dedicated to his work
and so knowledgeable. Now before
each flight I pray, not for the safety of
the flight but, to fly with Captain Danny
Desai.”
THE APPRECIATION NOTES ARE
BUT A FEW DECLARATIONS OF LOVE
and confidence from his passengers and
fans. His immense sense of empathy
for all his fellow members is rare in
today’s fast-paced world. I would not
be wrong in stating that he is a rare,
endangered species that we need to
preserve in our hearts. The youth has so
much to learn from him; one passenger
even exclaimed that Capt. Desai is in
the wrong profession – he should be
a professor and help in shaping young
minds. At SpiceJet, he has added the
spice of customer delight. As mentioned
by one of his passengers, “Captain
Desai is the best thing that can happen
to you.” We are glad he is one of the
best that has happened to SpiceJet. We
are immensely honoured to have him
aboard.
