LAST MONTH, AUSTRALIAN ULTRA<br />
MARATHONER Samantha Gash finished her<br />
3,800-kilometre run from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan<br />
to Mawsynram in Meghalaya, from the driest part<br />
of India to the wettest. A former lawyer by<br />
profession, the 31-year-old undertook the<br />
challenge of the Run India project to raise funds to<br />
support six World Vision Area projects in Jaipur,<br />
Barmer, Kanpur, Delhi, Hardoi and Pauri that<br />
focus on education. Gash averaged 60 km a day,<br />
and once posted, “During the run I’ve made many<br />
impromptu visits to schools that line the highways<br />
and roads I run along. The kids I’ve met have<br />
spoken different languages, lived vastly different<br />
lives and been from different faiths. However,<br />
each time I’ve been welcomed the same way –<br />
warmly, with intrigue and big smiles.”<br />
