PRE-TOURNAMENT
EVENTS
Pre-tournament events were an integral part of preparations for
EHF EURO 2016. Their primary aim was to promote EHF EURO 2016,
to promote Tournament Partners and Host Cities, to sell tickets and,
indirectly, to popularise handball.

The promotion of the Tournament through pretournament
events started already in 2014 with the
Draw Ceremony of Qualification Groups in Warsaw
(11.04.2014), the organisation of Polish Media Day
– a press conference and a promotional stand of
Host Cities during the final weekend of Women’s
EHF EURO 2014 in Budapest.
The first test event relating to EHF EURO 2016 was
also Christmas Cup 2014 – a friendly tournament
held from 28 till 30 December 2014 in Katowice.
From January 2015, over 35 various events and campaigns
were organised in order to publicise, promote
and raise fans' awareness of the organisation of EHF
EURO 2016 in Poland.

Exactly one year before the start of the
Championship, the EHF EURO 2016 countdown
clock was officially launched in Katowice.The event
was also accompanied by a press conference attended
by the Mayor of the City of Katowice and
Representatives of the Polish Handball Federation.
Organisation of a press conference in connection
with the official presentation of the composite logo
of the Wrocław City (16.01.2015) 365 days before
the first match of EHF EURO 2016 in Wrocław, the
composite logo of the Wrocław City was officially
presented to journalists at a press conference. The
event was accompanied by the official mascot and
the promotional stand of Wrocław.
Promotion of EHF EURO 2016 during Men’s World
Handball Championship QATAR 2015 / Doha
(30.01 – 01.02.2015) During Men’s World Handball
Championship held in Qatar in January 2015, further
activities promoting EHF EURO 2016 were organised.
In the period from 30.01.2015 till 1.02.2015,
the Polish Handball Federation arranged a promotional
stand of Host Cities of EHF EURO 2016 in the
Lusail Multipurpose Arena. Promotional videos of
Host Cities were shown, and promotional prints
(brochures etc.) and small gadgets promoting the
Tournament in Poland were available at the stand.
Near the stand, there was also a photo booth where
everyone could take a commemorative photo against
the panorama of Host Cities and a photo with the
mascot of EHF EURO 2016 and selected gadgets,
e.g. a fan scarf. On the day preceding final matches
of the 2015 World Championship (31.01.2015),
an official conference promoting EHF EURO 2016 in
Poland was held in the Lusail Multipurpose Hall in
Qatar. The conference was attended by the President
of the European Handball Federation, the Minister of
Sport and Tourism and representatives of the Polish
Handball Federation.
