HEAD COACH
MANOLO CADENAS
After Spain had won 2013 World Championship, a substitution took place on the
coach's bench. Valero Rivera left the team and moved to Qatar where he currently
coaches the men's national team and Manolo Cadenas took over as new Spanish
head coach.
The 58-year-old Cadenas started his career as a professional handball coach in
1986, first directing the handball club from Oviedo. Later he worked at Cantabria,
Valladolid, Ademar León, FC Barcelona as well as BM Granollers and - apart from
his job on the national team's bench - he currently coaches Polish VELUX EHF
Champions League participants Orlen Wisła Płock.
In his coaching career he won, among further silverware, the Cup Winners' Cup
three times, once with Cantabria in 1990 and twice with Ademar Leon in 1999
and 2005.
Manolo Cadenas is in love with handball and he is an academic icon in the sport.
He still teaches at seminars for coaches, and he has invested much of his time in
training at grassroots level and therefore has positively earned the respect and
affection of all Spanish fans.
