TRANSPORT
Within the scope of Tournament transport services, it was necessary
to provide such services to teams for the entire period of their stay
in Poland and to the dedicated media, VIPs and the Organisational
Committee from 11 till 31 January 2016.
For this purpose, a Transport Coordinator and
Transport Managers were appointed on behalf of
the Polish Handball Federation in each Host City.
The main transport-related activities included the
provision of a fleet of buses and cars, the organisation
of the Park & Ride zone in Kraków and the ensuring
of co-operation with airports with regard to
transport organisation.
Transport Managers were also responsible for the
recruitment and training of the transport team and
for the training of volunteers both with regard to
general rules, procedures and the functioning of
cars and standards during EHF EURO 2016).
By way of competition, the Organisational Committee
selected the SINDBAD company to provide the relevant
number of buses for the period of EHF EURO
2016, whereas the fleet of cars was supplied by
Suzuki. In addition, a fleet of luxury Peugeot cars
was provided for the transport of VIPs.
Another task was to plan transport operations for
each facility (match venues, training halls, hotels,
etc.) and to create operational plans.
In addition, a series of training courses for drivers
and city Coordinators was organised, all traffic
routes were tested and the police and Venue
Managers were consulted about them. Branding
of the bus fleet was also necessary. Finally, travel
schedules were prepared in agreement with each
area (Media, VIPs, teams, services) and in agreement
with local Coordinators.
In Kraków, Wrocław and Katowice, a „Combi Ticket”
was planned and implemented; it entitled fans who
had bought a match ticket to travel to the main venue
by public transport for free. In Kraków, a Park &
Ride zone was also organised on the premises of
the Polish Aviation Museum. On match days, each
city increased the number and travel frequency of
public transport means.
