GUDMUNDUR GUDMUNDSSON<br />

As a left wing player for Vikingur Reykjavik Gudmundur Gudmundsson was the<br />

Icelandic champion six times and won the Icelandic Cup on six occasions. He also<br />

played 236 international games for his country, scoring 358 goals and participating<br />

in six World Championships and two Olympic Games. From 2001 to 2004 and<br />

again from 2008 to 2012 Gudmundsson coached the Icelandic men's national<br />

team, leading them to Olympic silver in Beijing in 2008 and bronze at the EHF<br />

European Championship in Austria in 2010. As coach of the German side Rhein-<br />

Neckar Loewen (2010-2014), he led the club to the EHF Cup victory in 2012-13.<br />

Gudmundsson, who has university degrees in International Finance and Banking<br />

as well as in Leadership and Human Resource Management and Computer<br />

Science, was given the highest Icelandic civil distinction – Hin íslenska fálkaorða<br />

– in 2008 for his achievements in Icelandic handball.<br />
