Entry requirements: A<br />

professional qualification<br />

or appropriate degree-level<br />

qualification and/or equivalent<br />

work experience at the<br />

appropriate level. Students<br />

entering the programme<br />

are expected to demonstrate<br />

professional experience in a<br />

role that involves responsibility,<br />

which they have held for at least<br />

two years. Applicants without<br />

traditional qualifications are<br />

considered on an individual basis<br />

and are required to demonstrate<br />

potential to study at postgraduate<br />

level.<br />

This is an interdisciplinary<br />

programme for professionals<br />

who want to develop and enhance<br />

their practice at postgraduate<br />

level. It is a work-related learning<br />

programme designed for<br />

participants from a variety of<br />

professional settings including<br />

the private, public and third sector.<br />

The programme offers you<br />

the opportunity to explore your<br />

profession further, consider the<br />

challenges associated with your<br />

professional practice and develop<br />

your generic knowledge and skills<br />

in the workplace; while being able<br />

to focus on a specific area of<br />

practice relevant to you and<br />

your work.<br />

This flexible programme allows<br />

you to follow one of our specific<br />

accredited pathways or select<br />

modules of personal and<br />

professional interest from<br />

across the University.<br />

STAFF PROFILE<br />

Claire Parkin<br />

Lecturer in Professional<br />

Practice (Health)<br />

Dr Parkin began her career<br />

working in intensive care at<br />

St George’s Hospital, London,<br />

where she specialised in<br />

cardiothoracic, general and<br />

neuro intensive care. She then<br />

embarked upon a career in<br />

research, taking up the role<br />

of research fellow at Royal<br />

Brompton and Harefield<br />

NHS Trust, before leaving<br />

to complete her PhD at<br />

Imperial College London.<br />

Claire is Director of Health<br />

Programmes for the Centre of<br />

Professional Practice at Kent.<br />

She is also the chief editor<br />

of the Advanced Journal of<br />

Professional Practice.<br />
