SOCIAL AND PUBLIC POLICY<br />
The School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social<br />
Research (SSPSSR) has a long and distinguished<br />
history, and is one of the largest and most successful<br />
social science research communities in Europe. Our<br />
submission to the Research Excellence Framework<br />
(REF) 2104 received excellent ratings, including 2nd<br />
for research power and 3rd for research intensity.<br />
Academic staff specialise in research of international, comparative and<br />
theoretical significance, and we have collective strengths in the following<br />
areas: civil society, NGOs, philanthropy and the third sector; crossnational<br />
and European social policy; health, social care and health<br />
studies; work, employment and economic life; risk, ‘risk society’ and<br />
risk management; race, ethnicity and religion; social and public policy;<br />
sociology and the body; crime, culture and control; sociological theory<br />
and the culture of modernity.<br />

Advanced Social Work –<br />
Practice and Research MSc<br />

Location: Medway<br />
This two-year programme offers<br />
social workers in practice, at<br />
years 2 and 3 post the Assessed<br />
and Supported Year in<br />
Employment (ASYE), and beyond,<br />
the opportunity to obtain a<br />
Master’s degree focusing on<br />
advanced social work practice.<br />
You build upon, develop and<br />
demonstrate skills in relation<br />
to being research-minded,<br />
evidence-based social scientists<br />
whose critical thinking is informed<br />
by their own practice. The<br />
programme focuses on the<br />
nine domains of the Professional<br />
Capabilities Framework (PCF).<br />
