Entry requirements: Minimum<br />

2.1 honours degree in a social<br />

science or health-related subject,<br />

or a medical degree and a<br />

demonstrable knowledge and<br />

interest in a relevant area. Those<br />

with a Health & Care Professions<br />

Council (HCPC) registration plus<br />

two years’ professional practice<br />

will be considered, though<br />

evidence will be sought<br />

from academic referees that<br />

candidates have the ability to<br />

undertake a Master’s programme.<br />

This MSc equips you with<br />

the skills necessary to design,<br />

implement and publish healthcare<br />

research. You gain an in-depth<br />

understanding of qualitative and<br />

quantitative research methods in<br />

the healthcare context. You also<br />

learn the principles and practices<br />

of evaluating health services and<br />

understand the theories and<br />

application of health economics.<br />

You acquire the skills necessary to<br />

critically understand the concepts,<br />

theories and empirical application<br />

of epidemiology.<br />

The programme provides you with<br />

an advanced understanding of<br />

social science debates, theories<br />

and concepts relevant to<br />

organised civil society, including<br />

the ‘third sector’ of NGOs, social<br />

movements and other formations<br />

between market and state, and<br />

refers to the institutions and<br />

practices of philanthropy,<br />

altruism and reciprocity.<br />

It imparts country-specific as well<br />

as cross-national and transnational<br />

empirical and theoretical<br />

knowledge of the historical and<br />

contemporary challenges faced<br />

by these organisations. It also<br />

analyses how they relate to<br />

ongoing social, political and<br />

economic transformations.<br />

in a relevant subject or a medical<br />

degree with demonstrable<br />

area. State registration in a health<br />

profession plus two years’ practice<br />

will be considered, though<br />

evidence will be sought from<br />

academic referees to establish<br />

the candidate’s ability to<br />

undertake a Master’s programme.
