months before their spirit is willing or able
to come back to us. I told her that was fine,
but wanted to try any way. Barb asked me
to think of Pup Pup. Don't say anything,
don't provide any information, just think
of her and how I could ask her to come.
Since Pup Pup always had an incredible
recall, I sat there thinking, "Pup Pup, come.
Come on Pup", in as cheerful a "voice" as
I could muster. Barb informed me that Pup
was there.
Barb stated that Pup was with a woman
who was one step higher than my mom.
She asked if that made sense. I told her yes.
She said Pup was with my grandmother. I
laughed and told Barb that was surprising
because my grandmother never did
particularly like dogs. Barb said that things
often change after you pass into spirit. Barb
also informed me that Pup Pup was with a
very big man who was one step over my
mother. Grandpa had always looked like a
very huge man to us when we were growing
up, so it didn't surprise me that Pup thought
he was big. The fact that Pup Pup was with
my grandfather was no surprise to me,
either, since Grandpa loved animals. Barb
stated that Pup liked being with this man
because she could jump really high when
she was with him. That was something Pup
Pup always loved to do, run and jump!
Barb sat quietly for a few seconds,
then got a quizzical look on her face. She
said Pup Pup's passing had been "quirky,
totally unexpected." I told her yes. She said
it had something to do with her head. Pup
had been feeling dizzy for two or three
days before she died and her vision would
become blurry, but she didn't know how to
tell anyone what was going on. She said it
had something to do with the blood going
to her head. Barb stated she was getting the
feeling that it was a stroke or a seizure.
Pup Pup told Barb that she always felt
loved. She never doubted that Wendy and I
loved her, and wanted to be sure we knew
that. That one statement gave me a sense of
peace that I hadn't felt since Pup Pup left
us. I was so worried that she didn't now
how much we loved her, but after hearing
that my concerns vanished. Pup Pup also
stated that Wendy was a wonderful doggy
mom!
Barb stated that Pup Pup had been
cremated. Pup Pup had show Barb a
picture of a box, which to Barb means a
cremation, not a burial. Barb asked if this
made sense?Yes. Shesaid, "OK, thatmakes
In Other Words
sense. She knows she's sitting on a shelfin
someone's house, but can't understand why
she's being kept there. It's not really her.
She's still running around the house and
yard with the other dogs. But if it makes
this person happy to have her there, that's
fine."
Barb informed me that Pup Pup was
aware that most people thought she wasn't
very bright. I really laughed at that one. We
used to joke that she had two active brain
cells: one to eat, the other to pee and poop.
When they banged together, she had fits
of brilliance. When they weren't working
as a team, she was dense! Barb stated that
Pup Pup wanted us to know she was far
from being dumb. She just chose what she
wanted to do and ignored the rest.
Barb stated she was sensing a lot of
insecurities in Pup Pup from a past life.
She said she never felt like she was quite
good enough. She always had to try harder
and do better. She stated she was sensing
some neglect in Pup Pup's former life. This
answered a lot ofquestions that Wendy and
I had about someofthe things Pup Pup used
to do. She always tried so hard to please.
At times you could see the frustration on
her face if she didn't understand what you
wanted her to do. Pup Pup stated she never
felt neglected or unloved in this life. It was
a lingering feeling from a former life.
Pup Pup told us that she would be
returning to us in about a year. She said she
would be coming back as a totally different
dog. One nobody wanted. She would find
her way back to Wendy or I and we would
know it was her when we looked in that
dog's eyes.
After the session with Barb, I came
home and called Wendy. My first words
were, "I talked with Pup Pup today!"
Wendy's only statement was, "Okay".
Wendy was pretty quiet during the first
part of the conversation. I think she was
trying to figure out if her friend had totally
lost her mind. When I told Wendy about
Pup having either a stroke or a seizure, she
stated that made sense since the vet had
told her Pup had bitten through her tongue.
Wendy laughed at the silly things Pup said.
She also confirmed that Pup's ashes were
on her dresser in her bedroom. She said
there were times when the dogs were out
and they would start barking at something
she couldn't see. Maybe that was during
the time when Pup Pup came back to run
through the yard with her friends.
Since this session with Barb, I feel
as though I have a new understanding of
Pup Pup and how she perceived her life.
Considering her rough start in life due
to heart problems, I always wondered if
she was having a good quality of life. She
always seemed happy and enjoyed every
minute of every day to the fullest, but the
doubts were still there. Were we doing
enough for her? Was she as happy as she
seemed? Now I know she was happy and
content with her life. She knew she was
loved and gave it back to us 100 times
over. I hope Pup Pup does find her way
back to us and I do find that dog that no
one wants in the future. What a wonderful
experience it would be to be reunited with
an old friend.
No matter what form she takes.
