Solid Gold® continues to bethe leader In natural pet nutrition.
In 1974, Solid Gold® introduced thefirst natural dog food in theU.S. In 1985, Solid Gold introduced thefirst holistic dog food in
the U.S.
Now, Solid Gold® introduces its new FUN products called Functional Foodz. Functional foods arefoods that have health benefits
in addition to the usual ingredients.
Dragon's Teeth dog biscuits are made for medium and large size dogs. Dragonette biscuits are for the small mouth. These biscuits
benefit the teeth, gums and otherareas. They are available in 1 lb. and2 1/2lb.resealable containers.
Our protein source is very unique and exclusive to Solid Gold®. It is South Antarctic Knll, which look like small shrimp. Knll
contains beta-carotene in the formof Astazanthin, whichhelps the heart and circulation and chitosen, whichhas the abilityto absorb
excess fat. Krill is used in many weight loss formulas. In one study (Christansen et al, 1994), krill was found toenhance disease resist
ance and boost survival rates. Because it is a good source of minerals, krill intensifies pigment.
Dragon's Teeth and Dragonettes also contain oatmeal, spelt (an ancient grain), canola oil, flax meal, spinach, perilla oil, olive leaf
extract, green tea, xylitol, chlorophyll and peppermint.
• Spinach is a source of chlorophyll and vitamin C.Every cellinthebody contains chlorophyll, which transmits electricity and enables thecells to communicate
with each other.
• Perilla Oilis aneasy on thestomach, which contains high levels of omega 3 fatty acids. It is anexcellent aidtoweight loss. Patients with colitis, heart disease
and breast and colon cancer are advised to use it by their doctors.
• Astaxanthinhas been used to help reverse maculardegeneration of the eyes.
• Xylitol is ourstar! Researchers inSweden gave chewing gum that contained xylitol to school children three times a day forfive years. When the children were
examined fortooth decay, notonechildhaddecayed teeth. Then, for another fiveyears, no xylitol wasgiven in thegum.Again, lessthan 10% hada cavity!
The researchers concluded that the xylitol had somehow imparted a permanent protection to the teeth.
Xylitol has additional benefits. It is used in a nasal spray and has been shown to be helpful with asthma and ear infections. In an
experiment, even after four days of non use, bad bacteria and staph infections disappeared! (Zabner, National Academy of Science
Magazine, Oct 2000). When pregnant women chewed gum with xylitol, fewer infections, particularly staph, were passed on to the
newborn infants. At age5, thesechildren had70% fewercavitieswithouteverbeingdirectlyexposedto xylitol. (Soderling et al.Journal
of Dental Research, March 2000)
Xylitol is rated as a naturally occurring food substance. It has been giventhe safestrating by the World Health Organization and
the FDA. Since it is not a drug, the pharmaceutical industry is not interested in it.
Recently, an articleappeared in a dog magazine warning peoplenot to give xylitolto dogs. The writerhadnot done his homework.
One article said two dogs go sick. Another article said 45 dogs got sick. We contacted Tufts University to speak with the original
researcher. He wasn't there, but his assistant was kind enough to send us a summary of the research.
A nine month old puppy (weight not given) ate over 100 pieces of xylitol candy (4 month supply) all at one time.Another, nine year
old dog (weight not given), ate an entire pound of xylitol all at one time. The xylitol was going to be used in some baked goods. Both
dogs got sick. Who wouldn't! Both dogs were treated by a vet and survived. So much for the writer getting his facts together!
The other outstanding ingredient in Dragon's Teeth and Dragonettes is Green Tea. This ancient Chinese ingredient was first used as
an anti-aging product for a thousand years. It was used internally and externally. Green Tea was used in
preparation for youthful cell rejuvenation. In modem times, it has been found to be anti-viral and
anti-bacterial.
A bit of history - The 2004 Olympics were held in Athens, Greece. The Greek Goddess Athena
was the protector ofancient Athens. People also think ofher as the goddess of wisdom. In Athens,
there are quite a few statues of Athena with snakes around her. In ancient times, snakes were
supposed to impart wisdom.
Remember, the snake in the Garden of Eden gave Eve the fmit. The snake promised the fhiit
was from the Tree of Wisdom and she wanted wisdom, so she ate it. Throughout time, the snake
changed form. In China, the snake became the dragon. Red is the color ofluck in China. So, now you
know where we got the idea for the red dragon on the package.
