ASC of Michigan
Ann B. DeChant, Affiliate Representative,
ann@sunde\vfarm.com
TheASCofMichigan is oneofASCA's
most active Affiliate Clubs. We held 20
Shows with Conformation and Obedience
in 2004 with an ASCA/NADAC Agility
Trial co-hosted with the Grand Rapids
Agility Club (GRAC).
Unfortunately, GRAC has decided not
to hold any further NADAC trials, so we
have no Agility scheduled for 2005. We
would like the thank GRAC for a great
working relationship for the years that we
were able to co-sanction with them. We are
grateful for the opportunity!
Another highlight of 2004 was
our tracking seminar. We hosted an
"Introduction to Tracking" seminar by
Robbin and Cheryl Shea at our October
show. The seminar was attended by
about 25 people. The Sheas talked about
the different tracking test requirements,
necessary equipment, and how to actually
start a new dog in tracking. Each attendee
received a free raffle ticket, and we raffled
off two tracking books. We will be having
a tracking workshop at our Memorial Day
show in 2005.
We value education and have held
seminars on DNA and have hosted several
very popular Junior seminars with visiting
nreeder-judges. We also value fun and have
many wonderful potlucks at our shows and
at our meetings. One of the highlights of
our year is our barbecue and picnic at our
Fourth ofJuly Show at the Midland County
Fairgrounds. You don't want to miss this
one! Uncle Sam is always on hand, and
sometimes the breeder-judges who are there
to judge get roped into grilling.
We usually hold shows in April, May,
July, September, October, and November
in various locations around Michigan.
We invite breeder-judges in from all
over the country as often as we can. We
urge you to visit our Club Web site: http:
//www.ascofmichigan.com for our Show
schedule and other contact information.
We are very proud of our Web site and
thank Kathy Dawson for serving as our
Webmaster!
Representative, slickworkingdog@aol.com
The BuckeyeAustralian ShepherdClub
(located in Ohio) has members interested
in every venue that you can participate
with your dogs. We also sponsor a ROM
program and give out very nice End ofthe
Year Awards.
BASC held its annual Obedience
Show May 21-22 at Dogwood Training
Center again this year. We had a good
turn-out for this show. Next year we are
considering having this annual show on
the west side of Cleveland and want to
combine it with an ASCA-only agility
trial. We are in the planning stages right
now so anyone interested in receiving
information about this show, e-mail me
at slickworkingdog@aol.com for more
information.
BASC has been co-sanctioning agility
trials with three NADAC clubs in Ohio.
This year so far there has been two trials,
March and May, but there more expected
in the fall. Again, if you would like
information, please check our Web site for
upcoming events.
We'll be having an Obedience Funday
on June 26^^ at Dogwood Training Center
along with an educational section.
We've had a couple educational stock
dog events in the past year. We did a duck
demonstration for the Greyhound Reunion.
We had a good turn-out of Aussies at our
Introduction to Herding Clinic. Last August
we also stepped up our ASCA stock dog
trial a notch by offering four trials in a
weekend on sheep and ducks.
Gateway ASC
(Missouri)
Eileen Wilson, GASC President,
Rebasadie5@aol.com
Gateway ASC is celebrating its tenyear
anniversary this year. We are a club
of approximately 100 members, with
many consistently donating their time,
talent, effort, as well as items for raffles,
bake sales, etc. Our show coordinators,
secretaries, and course directors take great
care in planning our events, and each
successful year is truly a reflection of their
efforts.
We've been very busy over the past
year. Last summer, we found out that the
show site we had been using for several
years had raised its rates considerably.
We were pretty much forced to make a
change, although we were able to hold our
November conformaion/obedience show
at the old place, and it did very well. We
then said our good-byes to the site (and mat
hauling).
We held our annual awards/Christmas
party at the beginning of December at
Nestle-Purina's visitors' center. A group
of us had decorated a week before and it
sparkled! We had a lot of successful club
members last year, as many awards were
earned.
After agreeing on a new show site, the
Westinn Kennels WOOF complex (which
has new state-of-the-art floor matting),
we held our February show and had a
great tinn-out. We were able to hold four
shows in two days with three rings running
simultaneously (two obededience/one
conforamtion). Each regular conformation
show had a five-point major, and altered
dogs for three of the four shows had threepoint
majors. The obedience classes also
were very well attended. We will again be
hosting this show at the air-conditioned
WOOF site on July 23 & 24,2005,
March brought our annual Herding
Trial at Nestle-Purina in Gray Summit,
MO. And thanks to some adventurous
club members, we tried our hand at our
first Post Advanced and Ranch Dog Trial
as well. The weather was perfect and so was
the attendance throughout this successful
three-day event.
We are now getting ready for our
Agility Trial set for June 11 & 12 at
Nestle-Purina. We will also be conducting
a Joan Meyer Agility Clinic there on June
24-27. Then it's onto our July 23 & 24
conformation/obedience show.
We're happy to state we were recently
able to donate $1,000 to the University of
Missouri's Phenome Project, which deals
with epilepsy and genetic DNAinformation.
