No BSRC Referendum Questions
on this Year's Ballots
At the Board's April Meetings the ASCA
Board developed three referendum
questions regarding the Breed Standard
Review Committee'swork.Afterthe meeting
and after receiving feedback from the BSRC,
a decision was made not to include those
questions. The decision wasn't finalized until
after the Foreign Member ballots had been
mailed with the questions. We just wanted
to letyou know why some gotthe questions
and others didn't.
Affiliate Clubs have Free Space
Whatdo you mean freespace?
Affiliate Clubs have space in the Aussie
Times once a year for a club report to be
included in Affiliate News. This update for
the Membership is the responsibility of the
Affiliate Rep. for eachClub. Of course, theClub
alsohasthe responsibility to ensure thatwhat
issubmitted by the Rep. is accurate.
What goes in these reports?
They can include items of national interest,
year-end awards, register of merit awards,
human (or dog) interest information, and/or
special events (Picnics, Fun Days, or special
fundraising efforts could be featured) or
awards. This is notto promote shows and
trials thatarebeing planned as you would
submit those to Coming Events. Most of
these reports include a run down ofwhat
the club did in the last year, These are
usually well written and are well worth
reading! There are often good ideas to be
gleaned.
WhatClubs will befeatured inthe upcoming
issues of the Aussie Times?
TheAffiliate Clubs that are inthe following
states are scheduled for space in the
September - October issue will include
reports from: Arkansas, New Mexico,
Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi,
Tennessee, Alabama. North Carolina, South
Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
So that you can plan ahead, the Clubs
who will need to submit reports for the
November - December issue are: Maine,
Vermont, New Hampshire, New England,
New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut,
Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, New Jersey,
Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and
Virginia
When should these reports be submitted?
TheAussieTimes deadlines are the deadlines
for submitting these articles. September
- October 2005 deadline will be July 16.
The November - December issue deadline
will be September 15.
Affiliates Can Hold
Benefit Events
Generally, IRS regulations prohibit a
nonprofit from allowing persons who control
it, normally its officers and directors, from
financially benefiting from the operations of
the club. However, that does not apply to
the club paying reasonable compensation
to its members, officers, and directors. Nor
does it apply to any benefit provided to a
member which is unrelated to general club
operations. Accordingly, I see no adverse
consequences toeither ASCA oranAffiliate
ofASCA holding a charitable event for the
benefit ofa specific member orcharity. Such
a charitable event does not run afoul of IRS
regulations. —Chuck Carnese
