Ms. Sandy, Ms. Sandy!
I'm getting to do big dog stuffnow!!!
Had Mom fooled—she thought I would
never get the hang ofpicking my dumbbell
up offthefloor, so I did it a couple ofweeks
ago! She ivaj so happy she was jumping
up and down! She says my heeling looks
great, but we have to work on my stopping
at the edge ofthe mat. Youknow, I think we
mightfall offthe edge ofthe worldifI step
out there, but can't convince Mom ofthat!
I started my fullfigure 8 and I can really
drive around the outside turn! My box
work is coming along much better—I am
trying to listen and not whine and shuffle
so much. I sometimesforget to jump on my
finish, but Mom loves myfronts! I can get
straightfrom any angle! And I get to do
conditionedjumping now. I am six feet off
to the side and 30feet back ofthe jump,
and I never miss the hoop in the center!
Mom is so pleased with me! I'm working
on the broadjump, too—haven't been able
to do it without the long stick andfood so
far, but I am beginning to get the hang of
it. My go outs to my box are super and
everybody loves my recalls! This training
is really getting to befun—I can't waitfor
tomorrow! All for now!
and from another...
Musings from Mystery OTCH 2B
When I last left you I hadjust left my
sisters and brothers to go off in the wide
world. My new momma is pretty nice, but
a little exasperating at times. She sends
Grandma a lot of questions about me,
worrying about every little thing that I do.
I know Grandma saidI was herfirstpuppy,
but what is there to worry about? After all,
I'm basically perfect. Geeez!
Dad saidMom ran up the credit card
buying me things. A credit card is a little
snippet ofplastic, andI can'tfigure out how
she could run up it, when she can't evenfit
two feet on it, but that's what he said. Well
it's not my worry. What's important is I've
got nineboxesofchewiesandtwobigboxes
ofstuffies stashed away. I didn't even have
to burythem! Shealso boughtmedifferent
jewelry, in my signature color. I'm a little
offended I had to wear a kitty necklacefor
awhile but Momma said my neck ivaj too
small.
Mom keepssendingGrandmapanicky
messages because she says I'm behind
Obedience Hotline
schedule. What schedule? I say. Life is
for kicking back, smelling (and eating)
the bunny pellets, getting belly rubs, and
chasing birds. Well, Momma apparently
read all sorts ofpapers that said I'm
supposed to be doing such and such skills
at such and such a point in my life. Well I
do like this clicker stuff—it'sfun to figure
out what Mom wants and neat to get lots
of different foods—but I'm just a puppy,
andas the song goes, girlsjustwanna have
fun! Not to worry. Mom still says she's
worried she's screwing me up but she took
Grandma's advice and trains me lightly.
And lets me run and run and chase the
birdies and the dogs beside us and wrestle
with my sisters (I had to teach them how)
and do otherfun things.
She takes me on field trips to cool
places a couple times a month. We usually
get to take long carridesandstay in hotels.
Mom always brings us leftoversfrom her
dinner and usually has chewies with her.
too. I always get to go, even ifnotallofmy
sisters do. I like traveling and mom says
I'm really good about it. It'sfun to see the
new places. Sometimes it's a little scary at
first—so much hustle and bustle—butMom
walks me aroundandpraises me when I'm
brave andin no time I'm relaxed. Momsaid
when I'm bigger I'll get to do all the stuff
I'm seeing—dancing, running, andjumping
over obstacles, trotting around in a circle,
and heeling beside her. We play pretend
show beside the real one, for practice,
she says, and she always gives me a big
hug and tells me I won! I think she gets
impatientsometimesfor me to do itforreal,
but I heard a bunch ofpeople caution her
to let me grow up first so I wouldn't burn
out. I'm not sure what they meant by that. I
run prettyfast but myfeet don't smoke and
leave smudgemarks. For nowitapparently
means I get a lot oftime to just hang out
and be silly.
Mom does make me go to school
every week. Sometimes I go two times.
Andeveryonelovesme becauseI help them
teach their dogs to not look at me. I'm so
cute and lively you can't blame their dogs
for wanting to come see me, but I guess
because they're bigger than me they have
to pay closer attention to their mom and
dads. Mom says someday I'll have to do
that stuff, too, butfor now mostly shejust
gives me a lot of treatsfor looking at her
and trotting along beside her. I likedoing
that so class isfun, and when I do really
well she gets down on the floor and plays
with me, almost like my sisters. I like that
a lot!
Mom can be a lot offun, when she
remembers to not be so serious. I'm
working hard with her and she's getting
better, ifonly I could get her to chase the
birdies with me I know she would be more
lighthearted! Well, I'm herfirstpuppy, and
you can't expect her to know everything
right offthe bat. After all, good moms are
made, not born. But I expect with more
work she'll come around, in time. I need
to scoot off to patrol the yard. Next time
