Popular comedian AY has been<br />
nicknamed the king of Box Office as<br />
he surpassed his previous cinema<br />
record with his new movie A Trip<br />
To Jamaica which premiered late<br />
September 2016. A Trip To Jamaica<br />
which was shot in Nigeria, America<br />
and Jamaica remains the second<br />
highest grossing Nollywood movie<br />
in 2016 with a total revenue of N137<br />
million from cinemas across the<br />
country. The movie cast includes<br />
AY, Funke Akindele, Nse Ikpe Etim,<br />
Patoranking, Cynthia Morgan, Ras<br />
Kimono, Robert, Dan Davies. It also<br />
includes Jamaican acts like Paul<br />
Campbell, Rebecca Silvera, Ghanian<br />
Stars like Chris Attoh. A Trip To<br />
Jamaica tells the tale of Akpos (AY)<br />
and his fiancée Bola (Funke Akindele),<br />
who travel across the Atlantic to visit<br />
family and unexpectedly end up on<br />
an adventure they never imagined.<br />
The year 2016 was such an<br />
amazing year for the Nollywood<br />
film industry as it recorded<br />
impressive cinema grossing<br />
running into millions of naira<br />
from movies which made it to<br />
cinemas nationwide and also for<br />
the first time it saw 8 amazing<br />
Nollywood films win a spot at the<br />
year’s Toronto International Film<br />
Festivals. Let’s take a look at some<br />
of these amazing movies that put<br />
Nollywood film industry on the<br />
world spotlight, their box office<br />
hits and how much they made in<br />
cinemas across the country.<br />
Fifty<br />
Fifty holds the 5th spot of Nollywood<br />
blockbuster movies of 2016 despite<br />
the fact that it was released prior to<br />
the end of 2015. The movie made<br />
such an impressive earnings in the<br />
box office as it went ahead to garner<br />
a whooping sum of N44 million naira<br />
after making N50 million naira upon<br />
its debut in cinemas the previous<br />
year.<br />
The Wedding Party<br />
With such an amazing cast, the<br />
wedding Party holds the number<br />
1 spot for top grossing Nollywood<br />
blockbuster movies of 2016. The<br />
Wedding Party centers on Dunni<br />
Coker (Adesua Etomi) a 24 year old<br />
gallery owner and the only daughter<br />
of a wealthy parent about to marry<br />
the love of her life, IT entrepreneur<br />
Dozie (Banky W). The wedding party<br />
set a new record two weeks ago<br />
grossing a whooping sum of 21.5<br />
million naira. Last week, it beat it’s<br />
previous week’s record earning N110<br />
million in box office revenues in just<br />
one week making a total revenue of<br />
N200 million making it the first movie<br />
to earn that much in Nollywood<br />
history. We look forward to more<br />

through the cinemas especially now<br />
that it’s the festive season.
