Tekno & Reekado Banks Yes, I had to give it to them both! These two should do a collabo! First, Tekno for me was the revelation of the year and ‘Pana’ is one song that can stand its own anywhere anytime, and the boy doesn’t disappoint. The boy is good and it was a great year. In Techno, Made Men Music has an artiste who can compete locally and internationally, from nothing he has made his name known.....and most importantly the girls love him. 3 Enter.....Reekado Banks, the ‘standard’ crooner has repaid the confidence Don Jazzy had in him. Prior to the ‘Dorobucci’ track, not much was known about Reekado and many didn’t see a star shining on his forehead; but yes! Don jazzy saw it, signed the small boy and the small boy turned into a big man! Well done, you both deserve this mention! Phyno & Wizkid The truest ambassador of Eastern Nigeria, Phyno is a ‘Fada’! Fada Fada was a blast! The song was so good it even crept into the churches. One thing you can not take from Phyno is his ‘calm consistency’. He has been able to deliver over time and showed us how lyrically sound he truly is, despite the fact that he raps in the Ibo dialect. Who goes there? Oh, it’s Wizkid (or should we say Wizman?) 2 This year, Wizkid was the envy of everyone. The singer has been touring since he dropped “Ayo (Joy)” in 2014 after his departure from EME. He has travelled and held record breaking concerts in every part of the world (that boy should have a diplomatic passport!) His collabo with Drake ‘One dance’ ft Wizkid has got a Grammy nomination and this is the first by a Nigerian pop star. 1 King Sunny Ade King Sunny Ade is Nigeria’s biggest music legend and 2016 was a good year for him. He not only clocked 70 but was celebrated lavishly all over the world. The king who is credited for taking Juju music to the world never seems to age! Good gracious, you need to see this man on stage! He was induced into the Hard Rock Cafe hall of fame and his guitar was auctioned for about 52 Million Naira, yeah you heard right! He is billed to perform along side Beyonce and other Top A-list International artists in April, <strong>2017</strong>. He was also honoured at the AFRIMMA 2016 for his enormous contribution to African music as a whole. Let’s tip our caps for the Legend King!
