Desert W<strong>in</strong>ds Freedom Band to<br />
Grant $6,000 <strong>in</strong> Student Scholarships<br />
“Our American Heritage”<br />
Armed Forces Day Concert - Saturday,<br />
<strong>May</strong> 20 (7:00pm)<br />
(<strong>Palm</strong> Spr<strong>in</strong>gs, CA) <strong>May</strong> 15, 20<strong>17</strong>... In<br />
further<strong>in</strong>g their mission, the Desert<br />
W<strong>in</strong>ds Freedom Band (DWFB) is proud<br />
to award six $1,000 scholarships to students<br />
wish<strong>in</strong>g to further their education<br />
<strong>in</strong> the field of music. These generous<br />
grants have been provided by, the Ralph<br />
F<strong>in</strong>gerle Educational Award Trust <strong>in</strong> the<br />
amount of $4,000, <strong>in</strong>-addition-to two<br />
$1,000 grants from the James Hobart<br />
Davidson Scholarship Fund along with<br />
Pendleton L. & Nancy Siegel and Marjorie<br />
H. Greenfield.<br />
The scholarships will be distributed at<br />
“Our American Heritage,” an Armed<br />
Forces Day FREE concert event on Saturday,<br />
<strong>May</strong> 20 at 7:00p.m. The concert is<br />
made possible <strong>in</strong> part, through a generous<br />
gift from <strong>May</strong>or Pro-Tem Greg Pettis of<br />
Cathedral City. <strong>This</strong> <strong>in</strong>spirational even<strong>in</strong>g<br />
of music will be held at <strong>Palm</strong> Desert<br />
Civic Center Park, a beautiful expansive<br />
park with band shell located at 43900 San<br />
Pablo Avenue and has plenty of FREE<br />
park<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
<strong>This</strong> spectacular even<strong>in</strong>g of Americana<br />
and Patriotic music will be dedicated<br />
to honor<strong>in</strong>g our men and women <strong>in</strong> the<br />
Armed Forces <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g: “Star Spangled<br />
Banner”, “Armed Forces - Pride of America”,<br />
Selections from the movie Grease,<br />
“The Homefront” Musical Memories<br />
from WW II and much more. Attendees<br />
are encouraged to br<strong>in</strong>g a picnic d<strong>in</strong>ner,<br />
chairs and blankets to enjoy a great balmy<br />
even<strong>in</strong>g under the stars <strong>in</strong> <strong>Palm</strong> Desert.<br />
“We are delighted to be able to grant<br />
scholarships to so many talented and<br />
deserv<strong>in</strong>g musicians. Our hope is to cont<strong>in</strong>ue<br />
to <strong>in</strong>spire these young students,”<br />
said Artistic Director, Dean McDowell,<br />
DWFB.<br />
