THOMAS CSAPO - FROM EUROPE TO PALM SPRINGS<br />

The art of Thomas Csapo is be<strong>in</strong>g featured<br />

at the Cor<strong>in</strong>a Cravcenco Gallery at the<br />

Backstreet Art District on Cherokee Way <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>Palm</strong> Spr<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />

Mr. Csapo was an enterta<strong>in</strong>er at an early<br />

age <strong>in</strong> the cities of Miskoic and Budapest,<br />

Hungary. He worked with art ensembles <strong>in</strong><br />

various theaters. His experiences took him<br />

through various art venues from folklore to<br />

classical and modern.<br />

<strong>This</strong> exhibit began on <strong>May</strong> 3 at the Cravcenco<br />

Gallery at the Backstreet Art District<br />

on Highway 111 beh<strong>in</strong>d the Mercedes dealer.<br />

He is shown with one of his personally<br />

favorite works at the gallery <strong>in</strong> the attached<br />

photograph.<br />

He went on to study visual art work<strong>in</strong>g with<br />

various art mediums explor<strong>in</strong>g their potentialities<br />

for creat<strong>in</strong>g orig<strong>in</strong>al art. He also<br />

was a teacher of visual arts at the Lancaster<br />

Academy teach<strong>in</strong>g a varied art curriculum<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g pr<strong>in</strong>tmak<strong>in</strong>g, pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g and art<br />

appreciation.<br />

Immigrat<strong>in</strong>g to the United States <strong>in</strong> 1973 as<br />

a student of commercial art at the Atlantic<br />

Union College <strong>in</strong> Massachusetts, his commercial<br />

art career had begun <strong>in</strong> Switzerland<br />

<strong>in</strong> 1970 as an advertis<strong>in</strong>g designer for the<br />

Tobler Chocolate Company where his work<br />

was reflected <strong>in</strong> the logos and advertis<strong>in</strong>g<br />

programs for Tobler. He stated that “Art for<br />

me... is pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g life as it should be or as it<br />

should not be it is like the experience of a<br />

curious reporter search<strong>in</strong>g for mean<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

truth.”<br />

The show at the Cor<strong>in</strong>a Cravcenco Gallery<br />

is a retrospective of what he says is 40<br />

years of his creat<strong>in</strong>g art. The works <strong>in</strong>clude<br />

pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>gs and pr<strong>in</strong>ts and mixed media and<br />

techniques that he has explored dur<strong>in</strong>g hs<br />

career. He states, “visual art is heal<strong>in</strong>g. Art<br />

is the opposite of the stressful life because<br />

it br<strong>in</strong>gs us timeless moments so our m<strong>in</strong>d<br />

can rest”.<br />
