PEKKA ELOMAA
Take Finland 100 into your own hands
› SUNNY COLORS
FRENCH-CHILEAN artist Georges Valenzuela Solari’s memorial
exhibition features many of his last oil paintings. The
landscapes of Valenzuela Solari, who passed away in 2012, are
characterised by joyful colours and the brilliant southern sun.
The exhibition will be held in the Espoo Cultural Centre exhibition
space on 14–21 June. Admission is free of charge.
HOW WOULD YOU celebrate the centenary of
Finland’s independence? The Finland 100 project
invites individuals, public organisations
and businesses to arrange events to mark this
special anniversary. The theme of Finland’s
centenary celebration is Together. Projects
under this theme can range from events to exhibitions,
development projects, decisions and
campaigns. The programme has three focus
areas: Finland’s past, present and future.
— The City of Espoo wants to emphasise
the future and the present
in our celebrations. Traditional
events, such as highlighting important historical
figures, are also part of the centenary
of Finnish independence. However, Finland
100 projects can take many different forms.
In the film category, Espoo used the stories
of women to shed light on Finnish history.
In a light project, the city collaborated with
a house in Suvela where 17 languages were
spoken, explains Project Coordinator Saara
Vanhala. Project proposals can be submitted
well into the autumn by completing the
online form at suomifinland100.fi.
