A. Noun plurals<br />
Follow the rules in chapter 3, section II and make these nouns plural:<br />
summer, company, family, sister, brother, parent, T.V. station, grandmother,<br />
dog, cat, apartment, story, cabbage, effect.<br />
B. The exclamation point (!)<br />
The exclamation point shows strong emotion or excitement. Sara<br />
likes to show her feelings in letters, and so she uses the exclamation<br />
point.<br />
Copy the three sentences, words, or phrases that end with an exclamation<br />
point.<br />

II. Grammar<br />
Making negative statements with don’t and doesn’t<br />
To make a sentence negative in the present tense, you need the<br />
helping verb do or does. These contractions are common in informal<br />
<strong>writing</strong> and speech:<br />
do + not = don’t<br />
does + not = doesn’t<br />
Rewrite each sentence below and make it negative. Change the subject<br />
from Roberto to Sara. You may use contractions.<br />
1. Roberto has a large family. Sara doesn’t have a large family.<br />
2. Roberto has a father.<br />
3. Roberta’s mother stays home.<br />
4. Roberto has a brother.<br />
5. Roberto has a sister.<br />
6. Roberto’s grandparents live with the family.<br />
7. Roberto sees his grandparents often.<br />
8. Roberto lives in a big house.<br />
9. Alfredo owns a big dog.<br />
10. Roberto owns a parakeet.<br />
