<strong>In</strong> order to acquaint ourselves with the operations<br />

and results of these laws, let us first discuss the reproduction<br />

of plants, in which the matter creation is<br />

alone represented; and, since the manner of their<br />

reproduction is more g-enerallj understood, let us take<br />

as an illustration, the flowering- plants, in which the<br />

sexes are represented in the male, and in the female<br />

flower. As is well known reproduction results from<br />

the union of the pollen, or fecundating- dust, of the<br />

stamen of the male flower with the pollen of the pistil<br />

of the female flower. This indicates that one side or<br />

part of the matter creation, exists in the male flower;<br />

and that its corresponding- side or part exists in the<br />

female flower. <strong>The</strong>se opposite sides or parts, each<br />

act<br />

as a magnet which attracts its corresponding- sid^<br />

or part in the opposite sex; and, when united, the<br />

matter creation is perfected and reproduced in the<br />

youn^ plant. But if, from any cause, the matter<br />

creation, as it exists in its imperfect state in the<br />

respective g-erms of the male and the female flower^f<br />

are not united and perfected in the female flower,<br />

these vital elements are wasted, and the reproduction<br />

of the matter creation in the 3'oung- plant is not:<br />

accomplished. <strong>The</strong> same law holds gfood with the<br />

animal, in which the two Creations- Matter and<br />

Mind, exist in the respective g-erms of the male, and<br />

the female. One side or part of the Matter Creation,<br />

and one side or part of the Mind Creation, exists in<br />

an imperfect state in the male germ; the corresponds
