Furthermore, Hui said last year and 2017 were the toughest
years of her life. "The immense double responsibility of raising
a baby and building a business and keeping it going, took
turns keeping me up at night. I've learnt so much about the
importance of building a team and finding the right pace, for
you. Just like running my ultra trail races you have to find the
right speed to be able to keep going. If you go too fast or
too soon you will end up cramping and 'DNF-ing' (did not
finish). If you go too slow you may not reach the checkpoint
cut-off times and will be disqualified."
"You also need to be able to find the right people to train,
run and race with you because they keep you going when you
don’t think you can and you take turns leading and inspiring
each other."
She added, "I've been blessed by so many team members at
ash be nimble, whether they're part-timers helping out in
between school and university or my full-timers who have left
stable jobs because they’re drawn to the brand. They've all
shown incredible care and passion for the brand and
me personally."
Today, ash be nimble sells sportswear all below the RM100
price tag with a range of products for men, women, children
and muslimah which caters to the modest active wear range.
Her bestsellers are sports bras, running skirts, unisex and kids
tees and sports hijab. The brand has fun colours and also a
steady supply of neutral and staple options in the colours of
black, grey and navy blue.
On her muslimah range, Hui said a Muslim trail runner in
Indonesia donning heavy and long apparel for a 100-kilometre
run inspired her to create designs that not only was affordable
and accessible but functional across race, religion, borders,
body types and boundaries.
As such, she began to design sports hijabs with long sleeved
tops and skirts or leggings featuring quick dry, mesh panels
or hidden pockets to ensure one is allowed to be both
adventurous and demure at the same time.
At the end of the day, Hui said she wanted something that
would benefit and inspire people from all walks of life. Even
the name of the brand speaks volume of the personality it
wishes to exude as the words 'ash be nimble' is a play on
words involving her loved one's names and the English nursery
rhyme, Jack Be Nimble. As for the name being in all small
letters, once again, it's all about staying approachable to all.
As for the future, Hui said plans included "rolling out fun
designs every month, having a flagship store somewhere in
KL, expanding to Indonesia and the region as fitness takes
off in Southeast Asia, being able to influence and inspire more
people to get into fitness!"
