Malaysia is set to welcome more
than 1,000 athletes, officials and
supporters from 11 countries for
the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA)
Games and the 9th ASEAN Para
Games. As guardian to the
country's major gateway, KL
International Airport (KLIA),
Malaysia Airports is proud to be
the KL 2017 Welcoming Partner
and Gold Sponsor for the Games.
Managing Director, Datuk
Badlisham Ghazali extends his
greetings to all those visiting
Malaysia for the very first time
and wishes the best to those
participating to make their nation
proud during the Games!
The 29th SEA Games and the 9th ASEAN Para Games will
take place between 19 and 30 August and between 17 and
23 September, respectively.
As this is our silver jubilee year and we feel that our collaboration
through the sponsorship of KL 2017 is the perfect way for us
to fulfil our mission of creating joyful experiences not only for
the athletes and game officials but also other passengers who
will be passing through our airports.
As the welcoming partner, we take this role seriously. Apart
from ensuring that the excitement of the Games is felt at
our airport through themed ambience installation and
activities, we are also supporting the facilitation of the arrival
of the contingent.
The ambience at the airport will include welcome banners,
posters, games and photo booths. Experiential activities
related to KL 2017 will be injected at the airport so that those
who do not have the opportunity to attend the Games will
also be able to participate in the excitement of the event.
More importantly, we will also have our roving ambassadors
placed at key touch points along the arrival and departure
routes to provide operational and directional assistance. The
roving ambassadors are recruited from our staff who are
excited to volunteer and do their bit for the country as well.
There will be between 60 and 70 roving ambassadors in total
during the peak arrival period.
However, we are not limiting our contribution to the duration
of the Games as we are proudly sponsoring three Malaysian
athletes who will also act as our ambassadors. These athletes
are gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi, taekwondo exponent
Sarah Yap, discus thrower Muhd Irfan Shamsuddin and
Paralympian, Mohd Ridzuan Mohd Puzi. The performance of
these athletes will spur many to follow their path and we hope
to rally the support of Malaysians for them. We also have
plans to collaborate with them in inspiring school children
from our adopted schools to emulate their dedication for a
career in sports.
These school children are from our Beyond Borders corporate
social responsibility (CSR) programme and this year, we have
begun Phase 4 of this programme which kicked off in 2007.
Phase 4 involves the adoption of four schools within the Sepang
district. Since inception, we have impacted more than 4,500
students under this programme.
With that being said, we would like to take this opportunity
to welcome you to Malaysia and wish all athletes the very best
and good luck! See you at the Games!
