Walk of Hope for Scottish
Huntington’s Association

The Renfrewshire HD Support Group
will again do a sponsored Walk of Hope
along the banks of the Clyde in Erskine to
raise funds for the Scottish Huntington’s
Association (SHA).
We do this every year because we want
to raise funds for the SHA which is the
only Scottish charity dedicated to helping
people affected by Huntington’s disease
(HD). HD is a devastating neurological
condition which renders the sufferer
increasingly dependent on care over the
course of 15 to 25 years. In layman’s
terms it is like having motor neuron
disease, Parkinson’s and elements of
Alzheimer’s – all at the same time. Sadly,
it is genetic and every child of a person
with the condition has a 50% chance of
inheriting the disease.
The funds we raise will go to the SHA to enable them to continue to provide a
comprehensive support and advisory service to families in Scotland who are
affected by HD.
Please join us for the walk which at the most is 4 miles, but you can walk as little
or as much as you like. We meet at the small car park near the river opposite
the Erskine swimming pool at 10:45 am to start at 11:00am. Thereafter we will
have lunch at Morrisons Erskine.

You Dancin’?
This autumn Ardgowan Hospice will be hosting a St
Andrews Ceilidh at the Gamble Halls in Gourock, with a
fabulous might of entertainment coming from the Scottish
Ceilidh Band calling the dance until late.
The hall will be filled with the sounds of traditional Ceilidh
music and revelers are encouraged to come in full Scottish regalia to celebrate
St Andrew’s Day. Guests will be treated to dinner and a wee dram to get them
in the dancing mood.
Alex Mula, Fundraising Officer at Ardgowan Hospice said, “I’m really excited
we’re holding a Ceilidh in November. I’ve never been to one myself, but will be
measured up for a kilt to join in the dance.”
Smith’s in Greenock will be donating 10% of Kilt hire for the Ceilidh from the
Black Isle, Grey Isle or Hebridean Heather range directly to the hospice to help
bring the fundraising total to a maximum.
Tickets to the Ceilidh are £25 each and include a dram, dinner and dancing. To
