The civic inbox has been very full lately and while I do not
promise to resolve all problems and dilemmas I do promise
to do my best to resolve them. I am pleased that a long
standing issue in Howwood may be resolved as the Council’s
Community Payback Team has agreed at my request to
ensure the steps between Bowfi eld Road and Midton Road
are swept of leaves as Autumn approaches. Due to cuts the
Council has only committed to a monthly sweep but due to
the Payback Team this should be doubled.
I have been engaged in correspondence with the General
Trustees of the Church of Scotland regarding their plans for
the former Kilbarchan West Church, and Church Hall. My
logic in doing so was to ensure the Trustees were taking full account of the mind
of the village regarding any ideas for its future use, and I have made clear to
them that Kilbarchan Community Council must kept abreast of all developments.
Shortly the former church and hall should be put on the open market for sale.
Before long we will be approaching November, the month of remembrance, and
with that in mind I have been encouraging Renfrewshire Council to carry out repointing
and renovation work at Lochwinnoch War Memorial. Hopefully this will
not be the end but only the beginning of a more comprehensive upgrade of what
is one of Renfrewshire’s most striking memorials to those who have both served
and died for their country.
My advice surgery in Kilbarchan is on the 2nd Wednesday of the month in the Steeple Hall
at 7.30pm, and my advice surgery in Howwood is at 6.30pm on the 4th Wednesday of the
month, and then in Lochwinnoch the same night in the McKillop at 7.30pm, all excluding July
and Christmas. But I am also always available to constituents who can call me on 07534
148224, tweet me on CllrAndy4Ward8 or e-mail me at cllr.andy.doig@renfrewshire.gov.uk.
