I was both shocked and angry on receiving news that the day
centres at West Lane Gardens Johnstone, and Whitehaugh
which provide care for people with learning disabilities are to
close in October.
I know that some of our most vulnerable citizens from
Kilbarchan, Howwood and Lochwinnoch attend these
centres. I have met with their Carers who, along with myself,
oppose the move, and I am demanding that Renfrewshire
Council take the necessary action to reassure those who use
the service that it will continue.
The appeal on the proposed Williamsburgh Housing
Association development in Milliken Road Kilbarchan has
been rejected, on the grounds of traffi c and access arrangements.
The appeal on the Branscroft development however is yet to be determined. Given
that this particular development was unanimously rejected by Renfrewshire
Councillors over a year ago, it remains a matter of concern that this is still
outstanding.
I do not need to remind readers of the awful weather we have had over the
summer. One of the consequences been an unusual increase in referrals for this
time of year in regard to blocked drains and gullies. I have asked the Renfrewshire
Council to attend to these, however given predictions of higher levels of rainfall
throughout the year, I have also asked that the regularity and frequency of drain
and gully clearing be increased in our villages.
In Howwood I have undertaken a site visit with a council offi cer and local resident,
to see if measures can be taken to improve the crossing point at the junction of
Midton Road and Main Street, used daily by school children. I have asked the
council offi cers to look further into this matter as to what can be done.
My surgeries are on the fi rst Saturday of every month except January and July at the following
times 9am in the McKillop Institute, Lochwinnoch 10am in Howwood Village Hall and 11am
in the Steeple Hall, Kilbarchan.
Meantime please contact me at derek.bibby@renfrewshire.gov.uk or phone 0300 300 1274
or 07534 156007.
