Kilmacolm Bridge Club<br />

Kilmacolm Bridge Club resumes play on Monday 4th <strong>September</strong>. We meet in the<br />

New Community Centre and play commences at 7.10pm. The Club is a member<br />

of the Scottish Bridge Union with two teams playing in the Renfrewshire Bridge<br />

League. We welcome new members to the Club and during the fi rst three weeks<br />

of <strong>September</strong> you are invited to come along as playing guests and check out<br />

the competitive but friendly play of duplicate bridge<br />

As this is my fi rst article for the <strong>Gryffe</strong> <strong>Advertizer</strong>, I thought<br />

an introduction would be in order. As a child I grew up in<br />

Bishopton and moved to Langbank, where I lived from my<br />

early teens until I moved to Inverclyde. My wife is a teacher<br />

within Inverclyde and my two children attend schools<br />

within Port Glasgow. Before being elected in May <strong>2017</strong><br />

to represent Ward 1 of Inverclyde Council, I worked full<br />

time as an Associate for a multinational civil engineering<br />

consultancy.<br />

As a Member of Inverclyde Council I am a member of the<br />

following committees and boards:<br />

Environment and Regeneration Committee<br />

Education and Communities Committee<br />

Audit Committee<br />

General Purposes Board<br />

Petitions Committee (Vice Convener)<br />

Police and Fire Scrutiny Sub Committee<br />

Housing (Landlord Regeneration) Sub Committee<br />

Having a strong interest in the use and value of transport links, I am eager to<br />

consult with constituents in Ward 1 on the current transport provision, particularly<br />

public transport, for Kilmacolm and Quarriers Village. Since becoming elected,<br />

the Main Issues Report (MIR) for the Inverclyde Local development Plan (LDP)<br />

has been has been a major concern for constituents with respect to the potential<br />

sites for housing. From a strategic point of view I would favour the development<br />

of brownfi eld sites and existing identifi ed sites over development of greenfi eld<br />

sites where possible. The process from MIR to issue of the draft LDP will be<br />

undertaken over the next 6 months and I will continue to engage with constituents<br />

on this matter, which will have a lasting effect on the villages.<br />

Lastly, I wish to congratulate St Columba’s School Duke of Edinburgh’ Award<br />

Expedition Volunteers who will be presented with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary<br />

Service to on the 18th of <strong>September</strong>. A great achievement!<br />

My next two formal surgeries will be on the 27th of <strong>September</strong> (St Francis School, Port<br />

Glasgow) from 7pm - 8pm and on the 21st of October (Kilmacolm Community Centre) from<br />

10am - 11am. I will also be undertaking more informal ‘walking surgeries’ and these will<br />

be advertised through my Facebook page (@Ward1chriscurleySNP). You can contact me<br />
