Purpose<br />
a. Analyze trend data related to professional nursing issues and collaborate with the<br />
Continuing Education Provider Unit to facilitate development and evaluation of educational<br />
programs.<br />
b. Establish a communication mechanism that facilitates collaboration with the MNA Board of<br />
Directors, the MNA Continuing Education Provider Unit, organizational affiliates, appropriate<br />
specialty organizations, and the <strong>Maryland</strong> Board of Nursing.<br />
c. Establish a mechanism for identifying and accessing experts on particular practice issues to<br />
facilitate development of policy statements, white papers, and practice guidelines.<br />
Highlights<br />
The <strong>Maryland</strong> <strong>Nurses</strong> <strong>Association</strong> Practice and Education Committee (PEC) has begun meeting to<br />
stimulate dialogue within the nursing community-at-large and MNA with the goal being to create<br />
a nimble, stable structure to advance nursing practice and facilitate MNA’s mission to provide<br />
quality continuing nursing education to the nursing community.<br />
Committee members have self-selected to participate in a workgroups articulating one of the<br />
following focus areas:<br />
1. Workforce – nursing shortage, nurse staffing, work environment, occupational<br />
safety and health<br />
2. Practice Policy – focus on issues related to nursing practice and the places where<br />
nursing services are provided, APRN issues, quality, evidence based practice<br />
3. Education – basic and advanced practice, interdisciplinary education<br />
4. Regulation – regulation, accreditation and certification<br />
